from this march winter wallop. the second one just few days. thanks for joining us tonight at 5k i'm iain page. the storm is not even here yet but school closings already coming in. no classes for philadelphia public schools as well as arch diocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools in philadelphia. check and see if your school district is closed take a look at the crawl at the bottom of your screen. our team of reporters are fanned out across our area let's begin tonight with more on that storm and the latest information from kathy orr. >> we've seen this so many times, iain, in the month of march you're talking about temperatures well above freezing the day before and the night before and you're talking about two storm systems meteorologically we call this a miller bee storm it's two areas of low pressure. here is the first storm that's wreaking havoc in the midwest see these showers, they are not the nor'easter they're well ahead of the storm associated way front. this is the developing nor'easter and that will really take shape overnight and tomorrow. right now, we're seeing some snow showers heading toward
5:01 pm
harrisburg and some sprinkles moving into the northern and western suburbs this will be the beginning of the storm and we could see some snow showers later tonight. especially to the north and west. we have a winter storm warning from the i-95 corridor to the north and west. this is where we expect the heaviest snow and advisory through south jersey and delaware for a lighter accumulation because we're talking about a battle zone once again that rain/snow line that typically lines up with the i-95 corridor it's going to happen again in the month of march it is a serious tricky forecast. so take look at our hour by hour. we see the rain and snow and sleet moving in overnight. possibly by ten, 11:00 o'clock we could see some sprinkles and flurries. but by 4:00 o'clock tomorrow morning, when you're watching good day philadelphia, sue serio, mike masco will be talking about that wintry mix along the i-95 corridor and snow to the north and west. look at this. this is a serious east northeasterly fetch. associated with that nor'easter that's to the south of us. that's when you get that
5:02 pm
northeasterly wind. it's bringing in the milder air and look at that, 41 degrees in millville and pouring rain in wildwood. then as we go through the day by the noon hour, this is when we get into some of the heaviest snow the height of the storm. still temperatures mainly above freezing. with the exception of the poconos but this snow is coming down really hard that means sticking. heavy wet snow philadelphia possibly mixing once again this battle zone mainly rain to the south i'm keeping those snow accumulations down in south jersey big time then by 4:00 o'clock we're beginning to see this winding up one thing about these storms they typically come in earlier than forecast on these models and get out earlier that's the case with this. by about 4:00 o'clock, we still see some heavy snow and by 8:00 it's out of here by 10:00 you have clearing skies. the storm is long gone because you can see that westerly wind kicking in on the back side of the storm. so during the height of the storm, mainly between noon and about 4:00 o'clock, heavy wet snow an inch an hour in some locations possibly up to 2-inches an hour. windy with gusts 30 to 40 miles
5:03 pm
an hour but the wind not a huge part of this storm. reduced visibility and difficult travel between the wind and the snow rate. that's what i'm concerned about. my biggest concern with this whole thing is power outages and that's because we had 6-inches of rain in february. we had trees down with terrific winds on friday and now you have heavy wet snow. so this is what i've done with the weather map. you can see reduced snow accumulation as coating to 3-inches in south jersey. three to 6-inches very close to philadelphia on the jersey side. places like medford, moorestown even cherry hill, haddon heights, possibly on that low end if you're mixing more and philadelphia right on that border between three and six and possibly five and eight. i think the eight in parts places like drexel hill and upper darby less mixing and eight to 15 high confidence here in our northern and western suburbs where you will be all snow. there will be a place through the lehigh valley berks county and the poconos where you definitely see that 12 plus.
5:04 pm

5:08 pm
the dark. >> so this is really that hard work where we're seeing a lot of damage it's taking a lot of work to bring back a small amount of customers. >> reporter: peco says this storm ranges as the third worse in the its history. it's attack to restore power to hospitals and police stations first. it follows that with repairs that will bring back maximum numbers of customers. it's now down to the heavy stu stuff. like this tangle of branches, wires and poles in ridley township. >> we don't know if these peco wires are life, um, we're in our homes with generators. they're telling us don't touch anything. >> reporter: a tree is hanging on wires behind these homes. the tension has snapped one pole and has left others leaning over backyards and property. neighbors say they don't mind the wait, it's the unknown that's gnawing at them. >> we understand that we may still be a few days without power. but we need to know if these are live wires. we just want someone to come out and assure us. >> reporter: we've alerted peco to this situation.
