rain to the bay area, but the white fluffy stuff to the sierra with the travel advisory there for us here at home for today, we are going to continue along this path of cool at the coast and warm inland this morning, starting out in the upper 40s to upper 50s, followed by afternoon highs ranging from upper 50s at the coastline to upper 70s inland. but then the big transition begins into the overnight hours and by tomorrow morning that rain is expected. a better look at what we can expect for today, as well as the weekend coming up in just a little bit at 401. let's see how the commute is shaping up this morning with sal. good morning. >> good morning rosemary. right now we're off to a great start on a friday. we don't have a lot going on which is just the way we like it. if you are driving on the bay bridge, there's a very light delay, if any at all. getting into san francisco also, as you look at some of the other bay area bridges, we're doing very well. so just take it easy out there sometimes in the early morning hours, we do get some pretty serious crashes because people are going rather quickly.

also, as we look at the peninsula, that traffic is doing well. if you're driving on 101 into san francisco, it's 401. let's get back to the headlines. thank you. >> sal new. this morning, two san jose police officers are in the hospital after they were shot while responding to a call. it happened at san ignacio boulevard and bernal road near the plaza shopping center. there, police were responding to a disturbance call just before 11:00 last night. when they got there, a man started shooting at officers who fired back at him. they were able to take him into custody and he was taken to the hospital. we still don't have details on his injuries, but one of the officers is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest. the other was grazed by a bullet. frightening moments at an oakland daycare center as a car was stolen right out front. the suspects then pulled a gun on the owner when she went out to check on what's happening. >> as ktvu zac sos tells us now,

the whole thing was caught on camera. >> any situation like that, you kind of just think about what could have happen. like, you know, what if he just decided to fire? >> it was around seven in the morning last thursday when jelani baines says two masked men rolled up to his mother's east oakland daycare surveillance cameras capturing it all popped a window, took the window out inside his mother, krishna hamilton. her daughter's camaro parked outside. >> it kind of rumbles when you hear the engine start up. so that's how you know the vehicle's being started. >> and her assistant, who was too shaken to appear on camera, opening the front door to check on the car to find a gun pointed in her direction. >> it was really early in the morning, so i don't think it was too many kids inside at the time. but you know, bullets have no names on them, so if he would have started shooting, it would it would be terrible. >> the assistant running back inside. >> we have signs in the front of our daycare that say 24 hour child care. and we had parents scheduled to be coming at any

moment, thankful no one was hurt, but worried about the future. i fear for my life. i fear continuing to have my business in a space where i don't feel comfortable and safe. >> as for her daughter, she's ready to move out of oakland. all the equipment she works with as a professional hairstylist was in the trunk. >> oakland is missing out on a new business owner who won't be opening up her business in oakland. she'll be taking it elsewhere as oakland released new data thursday reporting overall crime in the city, down 33% compared to last year. >> i wouldn't say the crime rate is down. i think the way things are reported might be a little different. >> jelani and his mothers view many neighbors have just given up reporting everyday crime. >> it really hurts because we love oakland. we love being here . but something has to happen, you know, because it's getting out of control. >> her message to city leaders. we've got to see more police presence. >> we've got to see more community engagement with the police. we've got to see these

criminals get off the street. >> and it turns out this is not even the first time they've had a family car stolen. they say it has happened three times before. so they say frankly, they are not expecting to get their daughter's car back in oakland, zac sos ktvu, fox two news. >> all right, zach, thank you. time is now 405. more than 2100 people have now been arrested during the pro-palestinian demonstrations at college campuses all over the country. that's according to the associated press and new nationwide figures that have been compiled now. police in riot gear moved in. they started clearing out tents, encampments and occupied buildings on dozens of college campuses and student journals at these colleges say they have learned some very important lessons while covering the demonstrations. >> really realize the importance of, having reliable, accurate and fair coverage of what's happening. i'm definitely just trying to report as accurately and as fairly as i can, and place my sentiments about the

conflict aside. >> and just at new york's columbia university, more than 100 people have been arrested, more than 200 were detained yesterday at ucla, the organizers of the pro-palestinian demonstrations on the cal campus say they have had several recent meetings with uc berkeley administrators. >> now, the protesters say they made it clear they want the university to review all of its current investments, and they're calling on the university to immediately cut ties with any weapons manufacturers and military supply industries involved with the israeli attacks in gaza. >> we've met with all all sorts of people. chancellor christ, the staff. i'm not sure about the positions of each of these people, but, like it's in progress. >> the protesters say they got one victory. they say the undergraduate student body voted in favor of a measure to block all student funds linked to the military. they now hope the university will do the same. we reached out to the university,

but a spokesperson declined to comment. >> our time is 406. administrators at stanford university sent a photo to the fbi of someone wearing a headband that's normally worn by hamas fighters, a university spokesman says. the person was seen earlier this week near the encampment at white plaza on the stanford campus. investigators say the person wore a green headband, a face covering and glasses, but that person has not been identified so far. the fbi has made no comment. >> president biden condemned the violence, destruction and anti-semitism on college campuses while defending the right for students to peacefully protest. now, the president said, students have the right to have their voices heard, but acts of protest must be conducted within the rule of law. >> there's the right to protest, but not the right to cause chaos. people have the right to get an education, the right to get a degree, the right to walk across the campus safely without fear of being attacked.

francisco right now, 50 degrees in livermore. good morning, san jose. you are in the low 50s. temperatures will be on the cool side getting into the weekend. and by tomorrow morning, perhaps in the 40s. so plan on that. in addition to the wet weather right now, we do have generally light winds. fairfield reporting a ten miles per hour in our afternoon highs. again, going to be nice and mild with mostly clear skies for today. a little bit of cloud cover along the coastline and the patchy fog as well. afternoon highs ranging from 65 degrees in san francisco to upper 70s in santa rosa, so above average for most of us along the coastline. it will be a bit cool. 59 degrees expected for pacifica today around the bay 72 in hayward, 76. the afternoon high in redwood city by tonight, increasing clouds by tomorrow morning. rain hitting the doorstep in many areas. i'll have a better look with the timeline and what we can expect in the weekend forecast coming up after the break.

san leandro still investigating a house fire. there it happened on 167th and los banos drive last night around 10 p.m. it's at a two story home there. look at the pictures. the video from citizen app shows lots of flames, clouds of thick gray smoke. alameda county firefighters say the fire was contained in about 20 minutes. no one was hurt and both

residents, both of the residents were able to get out safely. >> oakland police gathered to honor the lives of two fallen officers at the alameda county memorial wall. the names of officers tuan lay and jordan wingate were added to the memorial in pleasanton. the wall honors law enforcement and firefighters who died in the line of duty in alameda county. officer lay was shot and killed in december while responding to a break in at a cannabis store. officer wingate died april 20th. he had been on life support following a crash in 2018 involving his patrol vehicle. >> time is now 413. there's new data from oakland showing that crime is going down. the latest numbers from oakland police say overall crime is down 33% compared to this time last year. specifically the information shows reductions in violent crimes, including homicides, assaults and burglaries, while

the numbers for robberies are still up, 11% overall since last year, they have gone down in recent weeks as city leaders are crediting the revival of the cease fire program, which was brought back earlier this year. >> what cease fire does is it uses police intelligence and community information to identify those at the center of violence who are most at risk of picking up a gun and committing a violent crime. >> now, officials say the cease fire program required them to reorganize the police department from being a reactive organization to being a proactive crime fighting force. >> californians are now paying the second highest energy prices in the country. the us energy information administration says the state's rates are second only to hawaii. pg and e raised rates earlier this year, stating that the increase was needed to upgrade equipment and reduce the

risk of its lines, causing wildfires. >> time is 414, the port of oakland taking action towards being having a greener future. yesterday the port opened the very first commercial zero emission hydrogen truck stop in the world. norcal zero says it can fuel 200 trucks a day. the hydrogen powered big rigs are made by hyundai. they can drive up to 400 miles before they need to fill up again. one veteran diesel truck driver was picked to test the new big rigs, and he was happy to be in the driver's seat. >> it's very easy to get on the freeway, very easy to maneuver. everything's very smooth, the steering smooth, i love it, i really love it, i enjoy it, it's lovely. it's very quiet. >> now. the port of oakland says it has been ahead of the game when it comes to reducing pollution. it already uses electric cranes, vehicles and shore powered ships. >> tesla is accused of air

quality violations at its facility in fremont. the bay area air quality management district says tesla's paint shop released harmful emissions into the air without proper abatement. now, since 2019, air quality officials say, tesla has been served with 112 notices of violation. now, the agency is seeking an order to force tesla to correct the issue. we've reached out to tesla for comment, but have not heard back . well, as the popularity of women's college sports continues to rise, stanford softball team hopes to keep that momentum rolling, and ktvu bailey o'carroll talked to some of the players, and they say they hope their program will pave the way for future softball players. >> it's an unbelievable time to be a female athlete right now and we've got some great products, on the court, on the diamond. >> jessica allister, a stanford alum, is now in her sixth season as head coach of the university's powerhouse softball program. this season, her fifth ranked cardinal are headed into their final homestand friday

with a pac 12 tournament and women's college world series. not far off, but she wants her team to focus on the task at hand. >> we got all sorts of angles, but if you start looking too far into the future, you're not going to take care of the work in front of you off the diamond. >> it's a unique time for alyssa's team, and they know that. >> i think it can really get to a point where, softball does become a big of a sport, as it should be. >> tv viewership of women's sports is at an all time high. cherry topped by an unprecedented 103% jump in viewership for the ncaa women's college basketball tournament. just last month. now, stanford's softball is hoping their sport carries the torch. >> they say, oh, there's two kinds of fans. there's softball fans and fans that haven't watched softball yet. and i believe that across women's sports, across all platforms, last postseason viewership of the women's college world series fell 4. >> the sport was also dropped from the 2024 olympics, though it will be back in 2028 for the games in los angeles. alister

thinks the key to growing the game is simple build it and they'll come as they continue to build stadiums that have bigger capacities and more people can come and see games. >> i think that's a big piece of it. you're starting to see programs really, invest just in their women's softball programs. >> in the meantime, her focus is on this squad and seeing just how deep of a postseason run they can make. >> i feel an obligation to fight for the young women on my roster and to take great care of the program. and if that means knocking on a lot of doors to make sure they're getting all the resources they need in order to be successful, it's not something i'm scared of. good. run, ellie. >> and that was bailey o'carroll reporting. >> well, san jose is getting ready to put on several parades this weekend celebrating cinco de mayo. city leaders say the fun this time may look a little different compared to last year, as san jose police are now more involved in the planning process

for all that's happening. they collaborated with organizers to decide on which streets will close after getting complaints about previous years street closures. they're also going to be in the lowrider parade, cruising in a 1964 plymouth. >> i think we're fortunate the community is willing to collaborate with us and that we're have the opportunity to be involved in these parades. just because we remove a band, that doesn't mean that the community wants to be part of the parade. >> there are two festivals tomorrow, so two lowrider parades on sunday, several streets are going to be closed and diversions will be in effect . >> all we need that lowrider song playing right now, right? >> don't make me start. >> so fun, so fun. okay, let's check in with rosemary oroczo scho, the weather is not going to be cooperating for a lot of outdoor events. >> sunday looks way better than. yes. good morning to both of you. happy friday. today is going to be another warm one inland along the coastline. a

bit cool as we transition to an even cooler pattern for all of us into the weekend. here's a look over at san francisco. we do have a little bit of patchy fog out there this morning, but not too bad. the winds are generally light. let's take a look at the futurecast model here and time out. when this wet weather is expected to arrive, here's a look into the evening hours for us. a sun will set just after 8:00, but already seeing the clouds along the coastline entering the bay here, turning mostly cloudy during the overnight hours and by tomorrow morning the time stamp here reading 6 a.m. north bay as well as lake county already seeing the rain by seven 8:00. it's moving through the central and south bay. so a quick moving system here. here's a look at lunchtime where the central and south bay still covered in. it looks like the north bay begins to dry out just a bit. and working into the second part of the afternoon and by the evening hours, we do have partly cloudy skies and dry conditions. so for the rain, it looks like it's

going to be the first part of the day. and then breaking away to drier weather into the second part of the afternoon and sunday looks dry as well. rainfall amounts anywhere from half inch to an inch expected, so going to bring us a good amount of rain for this time of year. and in the sierra, we've got snow there with a travel advisory that begins saturday. does not expire until sunday morning. if you are driving up, a foot of snow will be a possibility at the higher elevations, so do expect winter travel like conditions. meanwhile, across the bay area this morning, low 50s in san francisco, upper 50s in brentwood and for the afternoon, upper 50s for pacifica, upper 70s for some of our warmer locations, 79 for santa rosa. your extended forecast here. notice the drop off in temperatures in addition to the wet weather, upper 50s to low 60s expected on saturday. a little bit better. drier weather and temperatures coming up for cinco de mayo. and then the warming trend will continue into

room here, because we've had a couple of reports of cars hitting some sort of debris in the roadway elsewhere or otherwise, i should say right now we do have a very nice looking commute on a friday, and we're hoping it's going to stay light for 30. let's get back to the headlines. >> thank you. sal. hamas says it is sending a delegation to egypt for further ceasefire talks and that its leaders are studying the latest proposal. now, the potential ceasefire comes at a critical time as israel prepares to move ground troops into the southern city of rafah, where more than 1 million palestinians have taken shelter from the fighting. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu insists that a military operation in rafah will happen eventually, despite international opposition. >> we will do what is necessary in order to win and overcome our enemies, including in rafah, in order to secure our future. >> according to several reports,

the current proposal calls for a six week cease fire and release of 33 israeli hostages. >> our time now for 31 classes at ucla today will be remote again after this week's protests, and the police response on that campus. the cleanup continues on the campus after that student encampment was demolished. police say more than 200 people were arrested after a very tense standoff between the police and protesters. many of those who were taken away arrested are facing charges of unlawful assembly. that's a charge that carries a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine. >> well, assemblyman rick chavez, zbur, is now requesting a formal investigation into possible civil rights violations at ucla. during this week's demonstrations, the state lawmaker from los angeles has sent a letter to the u.s. department of education. it outlines his concerns on how ucla has responded to both the

protests and the counter demonstrations on the campus during the past few days. that letter says, in part, quote, on all accounts, ucla has failed to uphold its most important responsibility, which is to protect the safety, well-being and civil rights of all of its students, freedom of speech and freedom of peacefully protest are fundamental pillars of our democracy. but violence, harassment and intimidation are not speech and have no place on campus or anywhere. for now, students at usc are being invited to a graduation party next week after the university canceled its main commencement ceremony. the cancellation came in response to protests and the controversy, when the university told its valedictorian that she would not be allowed to give the traditional speech yesterday, usc said that it will instead hold a trojan family graduate celebration at the coliseum. it will include drone shows, fireworks and live entertainment, including the usc marching band.

tonight's theme is latin pride. it is a celebration of the various latin communities and businesses within the city of oakland. vendors will sell food from different latin cuisines. djs will play latin music while people wander and shop. tonight's celebration is from 5 to 9 on telegraph avenue between 27th and 22nd streets. a new monthly event in san francisco kicked off a giant block party to bring people to the downtown area and improve business and ktvu is amber lee was out there and shows us what happened. >> i love you with my life. >> i want to feel alive. >> live music featuring a luna, an english singer and dj on the main stage designed to bring life back to downtown san francisco, this is the first of 12 monthly block parties known as first thursdays, held along second street from market to howard. i'm working nearby and i just heard, like, all these,

chase, gap, levi strauss, visa and wells fargo came together to build this downtown volunteer coalition. each company brought in 50 volunteers who collected trash, cleared pathways, and weeded out green spaces. organizers say these companies want to lead by example and get other people to take part in volunteer work across the city, we have the first five companies, but we want this to grow. >> we want there to be tech companies, biotech, other financial institutions, other companies that call san francisco home. we want them to join in. we love this city and we want to show that love. >> now, this five company downtown volunteer coalition will meet several times a year to work on similar projects. >> the federal government is going to spend nearly $30 million to identify and replace lead pipes in california. it's part of a new nationwide effort by the epa. the agency says

oakland. take a look. a postal service, they say that it happened at 1230 yesterday afternoon on euclid avenue. at least two suspects are seen on the surveillance camera approaching the letter carrier. they took his postal keys. a reward of up to $150,000 is available for information, leading to an arrest and conviction. a california dive boat captain was sentenced to four years in federal prison for his role in the 2019 boat fire that killed 34 people off the california coast. captain jerry boylan was convicted for criminal negligence. his sentence is shorter than the ten years the family members of the victims were asking for. the boat fire was the deadliest maritime disaster in recent u.s. history. it sparked several reforms maritime regulations and lawsuits that are still ongoing. the exact cause remains unknown. >> our time is 443. it's been

parents can get health care. it's the first time that daca recipients can buy health care through the affordable care act. james torres is in our newsroom. you have more on this. good morning jan. >> dave, good morning to you. well, in california we use the affordable care act through covered california. that's where you buy your own insurance through health care marketplaces . and the government offers you tax credits, discounts, financial help so you can afford your own health care plan. that is vastly different from medicaid or medi-cal. before as it stood, daca recipients did not have access to that health care market. this biden rule now removes that restriction. those recipients can now buy their own affordable health care through the aca or in our case, covered california. the white house predicts this change is set to help more than 100,000 young people in our country get access to affordable, affordable health care access that's the key word in all of this. this is part of biden's plan to expand daca rights, something that was vastly different from the trump

administration, who tried to eliminate the program altogether, though in the end, the us supreme court ruled against that to keep the program intact in 2020. the new rule will take effect this november, and that's when open enrollment for the next year begins. we're live in the newsroom. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you james. we'll new this morning. two san jose police officers are in the hospital after they were shot while responding to a call. it happened at san ignacio boulevard and bernal road near the bernal plaza shopping center. police were responding to a disturbing call just before 11:00 last night. when they got there, a man started shooting at officers who fired back at him. they were able to take him into custody and he was taken to the hospital. we still don't have any details on his injuries. staff at a day care center are shaken up after people were trying to steal a car and then pointed a gun at one of the workers. now it happened eight days ago at a day care center on golf links road. take a look at

some of this video. police just released this surveillance video. it shows two masked men stealing a black sedan parked outside the day care center. at one point, a worker opened the front door to see what was happening outside. that's when one of the robbers pointed a gun directly at her. >> it was really early in the morning, so i don't think it was too many kids inside at the time, but you know, bullets have no names on them. so if he would have started shooting, it would it would be terrible. >> the worker who had the gun pointed at her was too shaken up to speak on camera. so far there have been no arrests in the case. >> our time now 500 for more than 2100 people, have now been arrested during the pro-palestinian demonstrations at college campuses all over the country. that's according to the associated press and some new nationwide figures. police in riot gear moved in. they started clearing out tents in encampments and occupied buildings on dozens of college campuses. and student journalists at these colleges say they have learned some

progress, the protesters say they got one victory. >> they say the undergraduate student body voted in favor of a measure to block all student funds linked to the military. they now hope the university will do the same. we reached out to the university, but a spokesperson declined to comment . >> our time is now 505. administrators at stanford university sent a photo to the fbi of someone wearing a headband that's normally worn by hamas fighters. a university spokesman says the person was seen earlier this week near the encampment at white plaza on the stanford campus. investigators say that person wore a green headband, a facial covering and glasses. but that person has not been identified so far. there's no comment from the fbi. >> president biden condemned the violence, destruction and anti-semitism on college campuses while defending the right for students to peacefully protest. now, the president said, students have the right to have their voices heard, but acts of protest must be

a house fire. it happened last night at a home on 167th and los banos drive, about 10 p.m. this video from the citizen app shows the flames and the clouds of thick gray smoke. alameda county firefighters say the flames were out and contained in about 20 minutes. no one was hurt. the two people inside did get out safely. >> oakland police gathered to honor the lives of two fallen officers at the alameda county memorial wall. the names of

officers tuan lay and jordan wingate were added to the memorial in pleasanton. the wall honors law enforcement and firefighters who died in the line of duty in alameda county. officer lay was shot and killed in december while responding to a break in at a cannabis store. officer wingate died april 20th. he had been on life support following a crash in 2018 involving his patrol vehicle. >> time is 513, new data from oakland shows. the crime rate is going down. the latest numbers from oakland police say overall crime is down 33% compared to this time last year. specifically, that report shows reductions in violent crimes, including homicides, assaults and burglaries. while the numbers for robberies are still up, 11% overall compared to last year, they have gone down in recent weeks, and city leaders credit the revival of the ceasefire program, which was brought back earlier this year.

in this shopping complex this all happened. now you see about a half a dozen san jose police patrol cars, some crime scene tape, and then beyond that, some flashing lights of some additional, patrol cars and officers still walking around this area. this whole area is where san jose police say two of their officers were shot around 1030 last night. there's limited information right now about exactly what brought officers here in the first place. all we know from san jose police is that they were responding to a disturbance call when they encountered what the department said was a male suspect, but we don't know what that man was wanted for. but according to the police department, that man shot at the officers, hitting two of them. the officers shot back and the man was also struck. now the officers and the suspect went to the hospital. we don't know the status of their condition. right now. san jose police have not yet provided any further details about their their injuries, and we're working on getting that information. but in the meantime, you can expect some road closures and delays in this

>> yes, this is at saint ignatius and bernal avenues in san jose. this is a commercial shopping area where this happened last night, and you can see there's still quite a few san jose police officers and a big portion of the shopping center closed off. two police officers were shot responding to a call here last night, and a man described as a suspect was shot as well. and we just got an update about their condition. san jose police say one of the officers shot has life threatening injuries and is in critical condition in the hospital. the second officer had moderate injuries and has been treated and released from the hospital overnight. now the suspect also has life threatening injuries and is in critical condition at the hospital as well. now all of this happened around 1030 last night when san jose police came here to respond to a disturbance call. they encountered what the department said was a male suspect. we don't know what that man was wanted for or what that disturbance call was about. exactly but according to police, the man shot at the officers,

hitting two of them. the officer shot back and the man was also struck by their bullets. now, in the meantime, you can expect road closures and delays in this area because of this investigation into this police shooting, san ignacio is closed from bernal to great oaks boulevard. westbound bernal road is closed from monterey road to san ignacio. now, these closures in place as police continue to investigate the circumstances that led up to this police shooting again. two san jose police officers shot last night responding to a call here in this shopping center at bernal and san ignacio. and one of the officers has life threatening injuries and is in the hospital this morning. that's the update that we got from san jose police a short time ago. the suspect, who was also shot here, also has life threatening injuries and remains in the hospital as well. and the second san jose police officer less slightly less injured. the department describes that officer has moderate injuries and that officer has been released. but we'll continue to gather more information as we remain out

announced that this morning. ktvu james torres in the studio. now to explain this new rule and how people here in california, james, will be affected. >> dave, good morning to you. well, here's what you need to know. if you don't already get health insurance through your job. there are really two other ways to get it. the federal government calls it the affordable care act and medicaid. in each state. they kind of have their own versions of these programs. in california, we call that covered california, and we call this medi-cal are two very different programs with cover california. you buy your own health care insurance, and the government helps you out by offering some tax credits, some financial assistance with medicaid, and the government pays for your health care. and you kind of get the basics with that insurance. the biden ruling affects this side of the board as it stood, daca recipients did not have access to that health care market. this biden rule now removes that restriction. those recipients can now buy their own affordable health care through the aca. or again, in our case,

covered california. the white house predicts this change is set to help more than 100,000 people in our country get access. that's the key word access to affordable health care , which could affect a range of ages, some as young as 16 to as old as 40. now, specific to california, this rule affects a different population than a decision from governor gavin newsom earlier this year. that's this side of the board. now. earlier this year, he expanded medi-cal to all undocumented immigrants in the state. biden's new rule, again, this side of the board will go into effect in november, when open enrollment for the next year begins. pam. >> all right. thank you, james. the drive in downtown concord should return back to normal soon. city officials say several streets are reopening after a fire forced them to close monday night. the openings are across the street from the concord bart station between clayton road and concord boulevard. multiple stretches of the road were closed for days after a large fire monday night. the city says debris removal will start next

barbecue restaurant, reopened last week after a devastating fire shut it down for more than six months. however, fire officials are now investigating that fire in november as arson. the building was deemed unsafe to use after the fire. it was closed off because of the extensive damage. now, firefighters say evidence found there at the scene revealed someone may have started that fire intentionally. the owner says the restaurant was defaced and vandalized the day before the restaurant burned down. >> staff at a day care center are upset after armed men stole a car right in front of the daycare. it happened eight days ago at a daycare center on golf links road. police just released this surveillance video take a look. it shows two masked men stealing a black sedan parked right outside the daycare center. at one point, one of the workers opened the front door to see what was happening outside. and that's when one of the men

pointed a gun directly at her. >> it was really early in the morning, so i don't think it was too many kids inside at the time. but, you know, bullets have no names on them. so if he would have started shooting it would it would be terrible. >> the worker who had the gun pointed at her was too upset to speak on camera. so far, there have been no arrests in this case. oakland police say despite recent issues on the whole, crime is actually falling and they have the numbers to prove it. andre senior, joining us now in studio with a look at what's driving the data andre. well good morning pam. >> new numbers from opd say overall crime is down 33% compared to this time last year. specifically the data shows reductions in violent crimes, including homicides, assaults and burglaries. and while the numbers for robberies are still up 11% overall since last year, they have fallen in recent weeks . city leadership credits the revival of the ceasefire program , which returned earlier this year. they say the program

required them to reorganize the police department from being a reactive organization to being a proactive crime fighting force. >> what ceasefire does is it uses police intelligence and community information to identify those at the center of violence who are most at risk of picking up a gun and committing a violent crime. >> the city says the numbers are proof the program works, but not everyone in oakland feels the same. some say they have been feeling safer lately, but others say they're surprised to hear crime is down. >> no, i don't feel safe. i'm constantly watching around. >> i feel a lot safer here, especially at night compared to san francisco, where it could be a lot more dangerous. and i definitely see the change in crime rates dropping. >> the new data is building optimism among city leaders, but many say there is still work to be done. the goal is to get crime numbers back to pre-pandemic levels. authorities believe the ceasefire program will continue to bring crime rates down. we'll send it back

ktvu. ali. rasmus, who is there on scene for that update? ali >> yeah. san ignacio and bernal avenue is the closest major intersection to where this all happened. but we are getting some new information about exactly where behind us this all took place. two san jose police officers shot responding to a call last night. the suspect shot as well. it's far beyond this crime scene tape. so san jose police have closed off a large area near where this all happened. and so some of the people this morning, this car right in front of us, they're actually staying at an extended stay hotel that has been closed since last night. and when we heard one of the officers talking to the people who staying at that hotel, he said that that is where this shooting happened. and all of this happened last night. so it's beyond our view. and a little while we're going to try and move to another location so we can get a better vantage point of the scene where this happened. but this was around 1030 last night when san jose police responded to a call about some sort of disturbance call coming from that hotel. the a

on sales are down now. the company's latest quarterly report shows a 10% drop compared to last year. it's the biggest drop in iphone sales since 2020, when the pandemic caused delays because of factory closures. revenue for apple is also down about 4% from last year. however, apple stock up about 6% this morning on reports that profit margins are up. newly unsealed court documents show google paid $20 billion to apple in 2022 to be the default search engine on its safari web browser. now, the documents are part of the justice department's antitrust lawsuit against google . prosecutors say google's payments to apple and others allowed it to maintain an illegal monopoly. a ruling is expected later this year. and forbes magazine has updated its latest list of the richest people in the us. elon musk remains at the top of its billionaire list. the owner of tesla, spacex and the social media site x has a net worth of $257 billion. most of the 20

view over san francisco? a little bit of fog out there this morning. partly cloudy skies. temperatures are sinking into the upper 40s for some this morning, and we'll check in on those numbers on the back end of the forecast. let's talk about the pattern in place for today. we will see an increase in clouds by tonight. but today is going to be a dry nice one. there's a look at the system beginning to bring cloud cover to areas over washington and oregon. but again it takes until even about sunset before it begins to really impact the pacific northwest in northern california. now for us, we could see anywhere from half inch to an inch of rainfall with this system that is expected to reach the north bay by about 6 a.m. and then join the rest of us into the second part of the morning, lasting into the afternoon. but then we break away to dry conditions by the evening. if you're going to the sierra, there is a winter weather advisory here that begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow and will go until 8 a.m. on sunday,
