fun time from the bay area's local news station. >> you're watching kron. 4 news. >> thanks so much for joining us on kron. news at 10. i'm vicki liviakis and i'm grant lotus. our top story tonight. a pretty rare one rain in may. yeah. seems like winter is not completely over here in the bay area. >> kron four's a lawrence karnow tracking the storm towards as right now lower. yeah. just in time for the weekend, 2 guys and looks like this. not just going to be a a storm. >> we may see may be twice as much normal rainfall in just one day from the storm that's rolling in. so it's got some punch to it as is headed toward the bay area right now started to cloud up outside that marine layer deepening ahead of that front as it's moving in looking outside right now. quite hour in some fog out there right now. but it won't be long. the winds starting to change just a bit. that onshore breeze is blowing after what was another nice day outside? of course, it has

been very nice all week long, but that is all about to change this storm coming in from the gulf of alaska and unusually unseasonably cold storm dropping our direction. already starting to see some rain now in far northern california that is going to be sliding to the south throughout the night tonight and tomorrow morning. and i think that's when the bulk of this storm is going to come through. so dropping the really characterized by the jet stream headed south as well. that cold air behind us. so we're going to not only see rain. we're going to see a major drop in temperatures. in fact, some of those temperatures we've seen in the 70's 80's, we're talking maybe 10, maybe 20 degrees cooler by tomorrow afternoon, only in the 50's and low 60's timing out that storm by 7 o'clock in the morning begins to move in by 9 o'clock spreading across the bay area and encompassing the entire bay area by 11 o'clock by the afternoon, though, should begin to move out. morning weather coming up in a few minutes. thank you, lawrence. despite the rain, cinco de mayo preparations in san jose are. >> all squared away with the

well as a heart pounding situation for officers dealing with this standoff. and police spotted around 03:00pm in rohnert park and led police on a chase on the highway. 37, then back to 101, southbound. and then across the richmond, sandra fell bridge. the driver then took off and 80 eastbound in came to a stop at the core. delia junction in the area of green valley road and 6.80, after his tires were blown out by spike strips. chp solano

county deputies and fairfield police surrounded and approached the suspect after an hours long standoff at 06:45pm. chp says the situation was resolved. chp has confirmed that the suspect has died. and initial report was that it was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the solano county district attorney's office is now handling the investigation in fairfield, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> man is arrested after police say he hit a minor. well, they were crossing the street. it happened rohnert park this morning on snyder lane at buck creek. and that's near rancho cotati high school. police say that they were able to find the driver. he is now facing several felony charges. the victim is expected to be okay. >> san jose police officers continue to get shot at alarming rate. the latest incident to officers were shot by a suspect at a hotel. police say this meant kevin

brown, us shot at them at the extended stay. america hotel last night in south san jose near 101. according to police, a woman with a restraining order against briones called police when she found out the man was outside her hotel room, her children ages 8, 10 15 were also in the room. >> what we had was an armed, dangerous felon showing up in the middle of the night and a hotel room where domestic violence survivor and her 3 children were with a with a pistol. the second officer immediately pulled the more seriously injured officer to safety immediately began assessing him for injuries when to apply a tourniquet before he even realized that he himself had been shot. last night's events offer a stark reminder of the solemn oath they take to protect and serve our city. >> in the immense personal risk, they assume as they carry out their jobs each day. >> one officer was released from the hospital today. the other officer is in critical

fire that destroyed horn barbecue in oakland. it happened just a few days before thanksgiving last year. and since then, owner matt horn has maintained that his restaurant was targeted by arson. and today officials confirmed it saying that the fire was deliberately set. no word tonight on a suspect. barbecue did reopen last week as part of horns. other restaurant maddie's old-fashioned in downtown oakland. >> there's an entertainment zone coming to downtown san francisco. mayor london breed says she's working to allow restaurants and bars to sell alcohol during outdoor events. >> and hang out with your friends and have a beer. and listen to music without going through some lengthy city process sound permit drama, stuff. i am trying to get rid of the bureaucracy which takes away the fun in what so many are small businesses are trying to create to continue

>> it is story you will only see on kron 4 in oakland store owner is sharing a frightening encounter when her employee was robbed at gunpoint. she says this wasn't the first time that it happened. our first theresa has video of the encounter. >> be angered each and in this video from wednesday morning. you can see a suspect pull out a gun and point it at an employee. >> that employee works at one key supermarket in oakland's chinatown. the owner, shirley liu says robberies have happened here before, but this time the suspect took a lot of cash. several $1000. liu says that it is just too important now to stay quiet almost every day. area, maybe that that is sometimes the. >> another weighty, some seem pop. and she says when she opened her business 9 years ago, the neighborhood was safe.

happening this weekend at street fair in oakland to celebrate asian american and pacific islander heritage month. >> the two-day fair kicks off at 10. 45 on 10th street in oakland's chinatown near madison and jackson streets about 2 blocks from the lake merritt bart station. there will be a brunch of local vendors and lion dancers. some bad news for cinco de mayo celebrations in the east bay, though, the richmond, san pablo, cinco de mayo parade that is scheduled for saturday. its been postponed due all the expected rain that lawrence of the talking about. but don't worry the festival on sunday will go on as planned. the parade will instead of planned for september. give us a closer look at what to expect this weekend, lawrence. yeah, when right, we've got a lot of rain coming our way here, especially on saturday. i think sunday. you're okay. but >> these temperatures really going to take a major drop. it's going to be a whole lot cooler. what we really been enjoying all week long and not

only that, but a lot of folks start to plan some it plans around this ti e of year to get out. enjoy the great outdoors, maybe head up the tahoe area. well, things are going to get very, very active in the high country to, in fact, they're going to see a tremendous amount of snow in the high country. usually don't see that much at this time of year. but here comes the storm right out the gulf of alaska. so it's already latched on some cold air has plenty of moisture and trained in the storm system to that's going to come rolling on in. so here we go. that late season spring storm, it's going to bring with it. lot of heavy snow and some gusty winds, maybe some 50, 60 mile an hour gusts across some of the mountain tops there and that snow level dropping all the way down to 5,000 feet. so that means the lake tahoe, you're going to get a mixture of some rain and some snow right at lake level. look at this 8 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet. some of the models trying to paint as much as maybe a foot and a half the higher peaks, maybe as much as 2 feet as well. so all that being said, you can expect some travel delays across the high country, unusually cold

temperatures too, and some gusty winds to go along with that in the high country. so we've got some winter storm warnings that are now posted for the sierra probably won't see these again for the season. but here you go all the way across. not only for the great lake tahoe area, all the way down lakes. also new, 70 area. so be careful traveling in the high country. time it out for you. you can see by tomorrow morning. the rain has already moved in the bay area. start to see some snow in northern california. and then that snow really picks up in the afternoon in the high country. that rain continuing on and off in the bay area. snow showers continuing into sunday as well and then finally drying out. but boy, look at all the amounts are likely to add up. as you head across the high country, you're going to see a snow amounts really begin to pile up saturday. how about that? a foot foot and a half across on the peaks. maybe even more than that. even north in the bay area. lake county, you could see 3 to 6 inches of snow. can you believe that from a day? guys, back to you. all right, lawrence, pretty impressive. well, travelers beware. the fbi is trying to raise awareness about assaults on

planes. >> as kron four's philippe djegal reports now women and minors who fly alone are often the victims. >> it happens more often than you think assault, misconduct does take place on the aircraft. that is something the fbi take seriously and we investigate predators typically count on potential victims to let their guard down on airplanes. and the fbi says the parents on opportunities to commit assault. people have a right to be safe board. any aircraft states are as high as they are going to play in. the fbi says in-flight assaults generally happen on long-haul trips when the cabin is dark, the victim is sleeping in the middle or window seat and covered with a blanket or jacket. >> waking up to their seatmates hands inside their clothing. we're under where you itself. the fbi says men are typically the perpetrators, women and unaccompanied minors are often the victims. the u.s. alters prey on people who consume alcohol and or prescription drugs to relax and

>> new at 10, a man in hayward is arrested after investigators say he shot a man and then buried the body. witnesses say the shooting happened back on april 26th near san antonio and heyman street. 4 days later the suspected shooter was seen riding an atv near the train tracks on tennyson road and late to court. police say that they tried to stop him, but he led them on a chase to a home

near last and in chance street where he went inside a garage and then barricaded himself. they say that after hours of negotiations, andres sanchez peacefully peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody. that same day investigators went back to the shooting location. they found the victim's body covered with dirt and debris his identity so far has not been released. >> san francisco is accused of dumping almost 2 billion gallons of sewage into the bay over the last decade. the environmental protection agency has filed a federal complaint against san francisco alleging the city has dumped the sewage into creeks into the bay into the ocean. sewage contains diseases like e-coli, which is we know can cause severe illness. the epa also says the sewage is interfering with water, recreation activities and is posing a danger to aquatic life.

fast food restaurant got shut down and has videos of >> the rats that employee shared with kron. warning here. the video may be hard to watch if you have a sensitive stomach. >> i was right in the parking 13, 30 jackson street in ed at - oakland. >> when a health department employee started turning customers away, who were inside and in the middle of the drive-thru, i asked what was the cause of the store closure. this was her response from the health department. they have some sanitation and they need to clean up. >> what did you find you mind telling >> and this comes while 6 mcdonald's employees are actively on strike from this location due to what they say is an unhealthy working condition. now, take a look at this video captured inside by a worker where you can see a live rat on the counter. now the mcdonald's employees say they have found rat eating food prepared for customers. the workers have now filed a

formal complaint to cal osha with the help from the california fast food workers union. >> when i saw that he has i was his is disgusting. and so this is problem not just the employees working on these conditions, but also for the coastal the communities affected today. i also spoke with the alameda county health department about these concerns. >> i was told the location did receive an annual inspection back in february and no violations were found. and once we share some of these allegations made by the employees, the department said they would be sending an inspector by to investigate. and that's what we saw on friday. and i did reach out to mcdonald's earlier before the store closure and they sent us this statement from the owner and operator joseph wong. it reads in part, it's important that employees have a safe place to come to work. when we became aware of the issue, we immediately contacted pest control and continue to work

with them to address this. and we will continue to follow this story and we're hoping to learn more about what the next steps are for this mcdonald's location. in the newsroom going kron. 4 news. >> it has been a little more than a week now says that video started going viral. it shows a fight between a man and a police officer who is dressed in a suit protecting the mayor of san jose kron four's noelle bellow joins us live in the studio now with what the mayor is saying about that incident tonight. noel. >> grant, this all happened during an interview with kron 4 san jose mayor matt mahan disrupted by a random person on the street ending with a brawl between that man and the mayor's security detail today. kron 4 spoke with mayor mahan for the first time since the fight. >> well, yeah, it was a

threatening situation. yeah. i trying to do an interview with a kron 4 reporter and was repeatedly interrupted and when we tried to ask the individual to continue the interview, things very turned violent in any given time. >> senate. >> essentially, you know, this individual what back and forth along the street and interrupted the interview a few times, which is which was shocking, frankly. and it was certainly not not a great situation. and what i saw from our security detail was himself identified himself as a police officer verbally ask in the individual to step back a couple feet because he was very close to may. and then he will. my security detail was assaulted multiple times. he did everything in his power to de-escalate first verbally and then physically despite being repeatedly assaulted. it was it was a jarring situation. i hope this other individual

gets the help that he needs. and i'm i'm grateful to my security detail and look, i'm cognizant of the fact i privilege to have an armed guard with me when i'm out in you know, carrying out my duties as and there's an investigation and they'll be more details that i'm sure our department will release once that independent investigations. don, there were multiple. >> eyewitnesses you know what was frustrating to be interrupted? i certainly didn't think that asking the individual to allow me to continue the interview would provoke a violent reaction. >> that individual's name is wesley pollard. he has been charged with battery, disturbing the peace and threatening a police officer. he's currently out on bail his next day in court is set for july. the key. >> 4 people have been arrested in thousands of dollars worth of stolen property have been recovered in san francisco. police say they responded to reports of an armed robbery near alamo square in the area of steiner in grove street,

police tracked down a car with 4 suspects inside after a brief chase saw 4 men in the car were arrested. officers found a gun and the stolen property. >> lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are praising the passing of a new law aimed at saving lives in cracking down on people making fentanyl. president biden has signed the fend off fentanyl act into law. lawmakers say it will crack down on criminal organizations from chemical suppliers in china to the mexican cartels and it will target manufacturers of the drugs. government data shows 80,000 americans died last year of an opioid overdose. many of them were fentanyl-related. >> u.s. senators are sounding the alarm after a program to help out low income families afford internet. well, it's expired. the fcc announced a partial extension with the reduced discount from a but nothing after that, the democrats are on board with an

look too bad. but keep the warm clothes hand is these temperatures really get a nose dive up there tonight? look at sfo. we've got cloudy skies out there right now. delays on some departing flights at sfo about an hour and a half. that's because of some construction not to the weather at sfo. oakland looking good and san jose. you're also looking good getaway forecast in the monterey bay. boy, those temperatures. how about that carmel valley. can you believe that? 49 degrees by tomorrow afternoon, unusually cold 50 in monterey about 51 inslee. the southern california is find some drier weather 60's in a place like downtown los angeles about 65 in san diego. but only about 58 degrees in long beach. and of course, the high country. we're talking about all that snow up there. be careful if you're headed that direction, you're going to likely see a mixture of some rain and some snow. and then i think that will turn cold enough to snow all night on a saturday night and into sunday. and that's going to stick around. so plan to have the high country. yeah, you need your chains. keep those chains with you as those temperatures are going to be dropping off and you can see snow as you make your way over the mountain. top 2. and then

that snow shower activity likely continue at least in the morning on sunday, tapering off by sunday afternoon. the meantime, check out the golden gate bridge boy that fog it thick out there right now toward the golden gate as we get ready for a big change in the weather coming our way, increasing clouds and winds overnight tonight that rain well going to be heaviest in the morning tomorrow. then turning the showers, mostly sunny and cool. on sunday. temperatures out the door right now got a lot of 50's out across the bay area's the clouds begin to move into our skies. but you can really kind of feel the change in the weather, especially along the coastline today starts in the clouds roll in late in the day. and here we are. you see that storm system not all that far away. so that's going to be rolling on in overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. that will be the brunt of that storm. 7 o'clock in the morning moving in the north bay by 9 is stretching across the entire bay area. the front slides south of the south bay by about the middle of the day. and then by the afternoon, we start to see a couple of sunny breaks on the backside. all the sierra could see a lot of snow moving up in that direction. so all that being said, it is going to be
