are celebrating a very happy cinco de mayo. it's it's important to us that everyone who wants to celebrate is able to do so and to do so safely. as you referenced last year, we had some challenges around vehicles essentially unable to move in. people been stock for a long time. and there were some questions and concerns raised about communication. and i actually i want to commend our police department who coordinates with chp around road closures and diversions, which was sometimes necessary with large events. they have responded by being very proactive in their communication. they produced a map. they're working with our council offices, community-based organizations just over, communicate in advance. so people know where road closures are, where possible diversion points are because we do have a responsibility for ensuring that everyone in our city, including our first responders, can get around the city during large celebrations
12:39 pm
where we have to keep everybody safe. but we want people to be able to celebrate. and i appreciate that. our police department heard complaints, frankly, from the committee last year and have gone above and beyond this year in communicating exactly what the plan is. so people know what to expect. and i hope everybody is able to celebrate safely this year. >> and since you taking on this new role here in the city trying to help the unhoused has been a big priority for you. the latest project at the salvation army is promising over 100 homes. we're wondering how that projects going. and if you think that this is the solution and are these interim housing projects? providing you the success that you want to see in the city to helping people who live on the streets. >> yeah. mean, all of the above approach in the last week i've been doing opening of a new affordable housing development, a sober living environment and expansion of a sober living environment with the salvation army and some tiny homes that were opening up down in south san jose on private land. we need to keep
12:40 pm
pushing ourselves to creating safe managed alternatives to encampments faster, more cost effectively. and when they're available, when do people accountable for coming indoors that that should be a basic expectation. and and a major modern city like san jose. and so we're standing up interim housing, permanent housing. the great thing about the interim housing know is that we can get people stabilizing, connected to supportive services, faster job training drug treatment. don't work when you're living in the instability of a tent encampment down by the creek. and so we have to move faster and and mortal were deliberately to stand up that basic shelter and get people connected to services in an environment in which there is some structure. there are some rules and that's that's my goal is to get people out alternative to life on the streets, which is not only terrible for them, but but really destructive for our entire community. >> san jose mayor matt mahan, thank you so much for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon. we look forward to your update. that's coming in about
12:41 pm

hi, i'm greg. i live in bloomington, illinois. i'm not an actor. i'm just a regular person. some people say, "why should i take prevagen? i don't have a problem with my memory."

>> for more than a year, the sparkling lights of that art installation on the bay bridge have been dark, but they're going to be turned back on. and the organization organization behind it is promising they're going to be better than before conferece. catherine heenan has the details. >> we think we can do this without being a driver distraction. actually think it might even increased driver attention. but but imagine coming into san francisco. have your friends into our cities reported the public art. that's 1.8 miles long seeing the city of san francisco open up other side. we're very, very excited. >> the last time we saw ban davis, he was the guy officially turning the lights off. that was march of last year after more than a decade, the lights were basically
12:45 pm
warren out too expensive to maintain bringing them back has taken a lot of fundraising. the new lights will be more durable and more people will be able to see them were also in a double the number of led. so. >> we're still the western span in the northern edge of the bay bridge. but we're going to wrap around the cable with a note on both sides so we can deliver a static equity around the bay. you know, really not just to the pet houses in san francisco, the north bay, but, you know, all the way down into the bay view, hopefully over the oakland, alameda berkeley, richmond and the new emerging neighborhoods of treasure island and why the the new version will be called bay lights 3.60. >> if all goes well, they'll be up by march of 2025. >> a new design. a bigger show, but it will still take a lot of work. >> then we need to get up on the bridge and which is not easy to do as we as we take the old lights down, we'll put the new lights up in one big pass. we need to work with the traffic engineers to make sure that we're proposing is safe. and and then the artist needs to get up there and really spend as much time as he needs
12:46 pm
to program the lights and that she the level of beauty that i know that's already there, but he thinks he can take it even further. and then we'll have our grand lighting. >> catherine heenan reporting for us. and if everything goes well, the bay bridge lights will be back by march of next year. the oakland a's are offering fans a chance to see 45 games this summer for about $2. a game tickets for the games will be at the oak lending. that's down the left-field line. the summer pass offers only $99. it's valid for a's home games between may 20st and august. 25th. it also includes up to 4 guest passes at discounted rates. the 2024 season is the a's last in oakland before the team moves to sacramento in 2025. 2 bucks game. the deal. the richmond, san pablo, cinco de mayo parade that's scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed because of
12:47 pm
expected rain. the parade planning committee says the weather what creates unsafe conditions. so sunday's festival, though, is still scheduled as planned. the parade is going to be postponed until september all right. let's talk about that rain a little bit more and see what's going on in the weather department with a live look outside at a sunny shot at the golden gate bridge. beautiful out there today. it's going to look a lot different this time tomorrow. yeah, crutcher to mayo is not going to be a whole lot of fun outside. to myers to be looking pretty good. >> you can see what's happening here. are high pressure still here. it's just kind of migrated further offshore. and then we look at our low pressure that has started to press and that's where we're going to start to see the action. that brings us some rain ahead of that front as it tracks through you can see those clouds and even a little moisture. well to the north of us at the moment, which means we have a beautiful day on tap today. looking out for above average temperatures, gorgeous blue skies. you know, the drill and a little bit of a breeze out there. in fact, is we look here at the golden gate. you can see a little bit of that breeze at the flag blowing there on the right side of your screen. temperatures pretty nice here. san francisco about 58. 64 in
12:48 pm
oakland, 69 in san jose. but we're 70's livermore, concord, santa rosa, half moon bay sitting in the mid-fifties, ok? so here's what's going to go down today. we're still under the influence of that high pressure, sunshine and warm temperatures. but there's the front ahead of the front will have showers behind the front. very and i do mean very cool air rushing in behind it. this is a classic low pressure system in a frontal passage and it means we get quite a cool down. so let's talk this through. we go through and we get to tonight. we start to see some clouds showing up the overnight hours. we've got the showers starting roll in the north bay. that's about 05:00am. so when we wake up tomorrow morning, we've got some of these heavier downpours are going to making their way through the bay area about a 10 to 20% chance of one of them popping into a thunderstorm celso keeping iran did eye out for that. that's about noon time. so the afternoon things do start to lighten up. but remember counter clockwise circulation. so we see as this pulls away, it kind of throws a few little blips on the radar as it departs. but i think by the early afternoon we'll start to see things improve a bit. this is how much rain we're looking
12:49 pm
out for. so it's pretty significant between a half an inch and an inch of rain could be some higher totals up at at the mountains of our peaks like in the santa cruz mountains, north bay mountains. i want to talk about the temperature drop and taking nap and as an example, 75 that your average high today will get about their right about 76 degrees. but the high tomorrow, the highs in the 50's. now check this out below from today. the higher going to be, you know, a couple degrees from each other. now, notice you do see a rather rapid rise. we are going to see all of this turnaround after we get past this frontal passage and then we'll see that high pressure that's still out in the pacific. actually move back into place and allow us to warm up. so take a look at your extended forecast today. we'll see the clouds move in later at the rain is tomorrow. the very chilly temperatures accompany it. we get to cinco de mayo. we get the sunshine back, but we're still going to be cool on your sunday, but no problem if you're going to be outside for activities starting to warm up a bit on monday. but we really rocket up as we get into wednesday and thursday and up way back above average again with lots of sunshine. by the time we get to the end of next week. back to you. all right. thank
