rest of us are soon to follow its really, increasing temperatures pretty fast this morning. 70's to low 80's for your daytime highs later today, making today just a little warmer than yesterday was. i'm gonna talk all the changes that we have as we make our way into this upcoming weekend. still to come back to all right. let's check the bridges and the traffic before we go along and >> starting with the golden gate bridge, is now this looks beautiful on the deck. but look at the drive time. you see that from 37 in nevada down to this spot. yeah, it's a 48 minute ride which is. double the drive time. if you're moving at the speed limit. so traffic is definitely slow going through marin county right now, richmond saint fell bridge is if you're going from richmond in december fell just a 14 minute drive at the plaza here. and if we look at the san mateo bridge, scott, a little bit better, although it still looks jam-packed on the right hand side westbound. 92. 38 minute ride for you there and get through the maze to fremont street at the bay

bridge approach is going to take it. 21 minutes, which isn't too bad for this time of day. okay. do too. is the time in this morning's top story, the golden gate ferry service between san francisco sausalito finally back up and running again. it's been over a week or something helpful they had to repair up here. >> and that meant people. let's take a bus which isn't as fun, especially for tourists, right? and that that that very takes a lot of tourists. >> michael thomas is live in sausalito with a look at the riders. they just got on the first vote 7. i don't know. they've seen a second one roll through a lot of sunshine there. >> yeah, good morning, everyone. lots of sunshine. that's right. the sausalito pier has been deemed as safe. they did make all those corrections. in fact, we've got video up on your screen as you can see what it looked like this morning. the first right out happened at 705. the next ride is set for 8.15, and these writers were really excited. you know, since april 19th, the golden gate ferry service has been really stopped between san francisco and sausalito because they found damage on one of the

>> i think what court for entire this encampment and other cameras around the country across the world that not about the university not about students, it is. going to get with a lot. >> well, pro-palestinian protests tontinue at several college campuses around the country, including here in the bay area. in fact, this video shows the tense that are on the quad there at san francisco state university. the protesters say they're pushing their university and u.s. officials to disclose any expenditures a college may have with foreign investors. >> and we've seen the protests grow at u c berkeley as well. here's a look at the cal campus and you can see the encampment growing at sproul plaza. it's now in its second weekend today, faculty and staff plan to join with the demonstrators at noon today. they are calling on the university to stop investing in companies that work with israel and this isn't the only

place that we've seen the protests. let's go over to stamford. we're monitoring the camp and happening there and you can see it's pretty big. they've got their flags out and tense out. and the students here say that some of them got a disciplinary letter from the university because of their protest. >> with 19 for out of like 2 or 3 more. can't exactly remember who have gone letters from the office of community standards and are basically being put through their internal disciplinary process. the language is very vague. >> so they want to know more and understand exactly what they might penalized or punish with for this protest. we did reach out to strand stanford for an explanation, but we haven't heard back yet. >> well, in the south bay today, students at santa clara university will be joining in on these protests as well. they want to administrator is to pressure the government to end any military funding or support to israel. organizers of today's solidarity demonstration are asking people to gather on campus at alameda lawn from noon until

08:00pm. the question is, do any of these infringe on the right of others? >> who have differing views or are are jewish and don't feel comfortable in campus. and that's something that congress want to take a look. fact, they're launching an investigation into federal funding for some of these universities. they're also pushing to pass new anti-semitism laws. this is the story that our dc correspondent hannah brandt has been following. >> house leaders accuse university officials of failing to keep the protests under control and they say not enough is being done to protect jewish students. fireworks erupted at ucla and protesters clashed on campus >> across the country of colombia, new york police stormed university building to arrest dozens of protesters who have been occupying it. this thing is out of control from capitol hill. lawmakers are watching with concern and house speaker mike johnson warns of universities don't get the chaos under control. you will see congress respond unkind. you're going to see funding begin to dry up.

you're going to every level of accountability that we can muster. he says several house committees will investigate the protest and may decide to take away federal funding. and this week, congress is gearing up to vote on a bill to change the federal definition of anti-semitism under anti-discrimination law. the rampant anti-semitism. requires action by the federal government. congressman mike lawlor introduced the legislation and supporters say it would allow universities to crack down on harmful speech. this is not the free marketplace of ideas. >> this is open threats to jewish students because of their faith and who they are. but some worry it goes too far like congresswoman teresa ledger, fernandez, we're constitutionally bound to protect. >> free speech, even more importantly, when it is speech with rich. we do not agree. and congressman pete aguilar prefers letting universities respond. they have guidance. they have they need to enforce those before congress. kate snow once the white house as well, president biden does support peaceful protests. he

is concerned about antisemitism on campus and doesn't agree with protesters occupying university buildings. >> in washington, i'm hannah brandt. >> thank you, hannah. also in the news today, we have 450 homeless families in san francisco that are soon going to receive financial help. they've been chosen as part of the 5 year pilot program funded by google and local nonprofits. half of those in this pilot program will receive $1000 a month. the other half will receive $50 a month. it's all part of a study aimed at showing that guaranteed basic income can work to combat poverty and homelessness. the payments will be distributed exclusively to families who are about to lose access to city funded housing subsidies. the program is all part of a larger 1 billion dollar effort by google to increase the bay area's housing supply. in the east bay. the alameda county board of supervisors voted to certify the results of the recall petition for district attorney pamela price. this all comes as the state is now

launching an investigation, though, into one of those groups behind the recall. da price says in december her campaign team filed a complaint against that group claiming that it didn't comply with certain laws that govern all political committees in the state. but this recall investigation could take several years to complete. the penalties could range from a simple warning to fines, but it will not have an impact if voters decide to recall price. >> and now that the recall signatures are certified. the county board of supervisors has to set a date for the recall. they do. you proper kerman actually walks us through what the timeline is like for all of that. this is a frivolous, fraudulent and road are only u.s. election. >> campaign to recall da price. alameda county is at a re us but da price been in office. i have no trust in pamela price. >> ask me i am a victim's family. the problem is not pamela price. the problem is the people who are getting locked the people who are

using drugs. and are out the streets and they're creating all kinds of crime. now that the board is move forward to certify the results, they will hold another meeting on may 14th to set a recall election. >> the special election can be set 88 to 125 days in the future. alternatively, the recall can also take place during the november 5th general election, which would save the county a boatload of money. if the recall is successful in prices voted out of office, it will be up to the board of supervisors to appoint someone take over the appointed da will serve 2 years until the next general election in november of 2026, whoever wins that election, we'll finish out prices term which runs until january of 2029. supervisors. no, the da pamela price believes the recall is illegal because the process did not follow the county's charter. in fact, one county supervisor said she hopes the county is sued. so a

spring is in the air. smog. is just me? >> if the conditions are right. but this is the time of year when they start to line up like that. so don't be surprised if here and there the barrier quality management district issues of smog alert. yeah, because when it gets warm, we get the lid have high pressure. >> but you can't really see it when you're like on sides. write looks like wispy and white and misty and great. yeah at night and makes a nice sunset. it doesn't have. the sun sets are nice. the days it's little less blue that. but we haven't seen much of smog the past couple days. and you guys know why was the yeah. and right. good for sailing. totally great for sailing. and this weekend, something else that's going to clean it storms or other way. and yeah, it's like what is this rare to get snow in made common? okay. definitely late in the season. yeah. in what we're looking at is another round of that snowfall at some pretty low elevations. so this is a late season storm for

sure. you're look outside from mount tam. you can see the air-quality is actually pretty decent today and we can think the wind for that, even though we are looking at crystal clear skies in the favor of a delay, the wind is kind of the catch to it point raise around 21 miles per hour. we have a strong enough winds out in the central valley, in fact, that we do have multiple advisories. we'll start with the gale warnings that we have on the point raised coastline up the sonoma coast line and then a wind advisory in effect through 05:00pm for solano county, as well as the central valley winds up there, gusting regularly into a 30 to 40 miles per hour range. aside from that, this high pressure ridge is aiding in keeping us dry for a couple of days as we make our way into the weekend, though, that changes and changes really quickly. we take the plunge from the 80's at our warmest to just the low 60's by saturday. and along with that comes this rainfall. now models are in alignment of some pretty decent rainfall for the bay area and some low elevation. snow fall up in the

sierra nevada. most of this on saturday before we clear back out on sunday. as for saturday's rainfall, the bay area will see anywhere between a 3rd to even 3 quarters of an inch of rain. well, the north coast, a couple hours north of us will see several inches of rain. so another big rainmaker in right in the middle of the weekend. that's where we seem to see the system is being placed. the sierra sees a decent snowfall that purple indicating the potential of 18 inches of it at the very top of donner summit as well as that go past these very high elevations, likely to have some chain controls in effect from friday night into saturday. so good travel days to the sierra will be friday and sunday. temperatures today range from the 50's and 60's at the coastline to some 70's and 80's atterbury. warmest today will be a little warmer than yesterday. notable in the south bay where you'll be just shy of 80 degrees mid to upper 70's in the east bay and for conquered pittsburgh as well as fairfield. even a couple of low 80's hitting 80 degrees each looking ahead to

tomorrow's temperatures are going to be very similar to today's as will be the case on friday. if you want some warm weather this weekend, take advantage of friday to saturday. not so warm any more low 60's and showers. sunday clears out but stays cool. back to you. thanks. a lot of dates. 17 want to take a peek at the traffic as well. the maze is looking good here at the bay bridge is just 16 minutes now. >> so not too bad there. the senate to bridge has been really sluggish this morning. 34 minutes is actually better than was like up to 40 something before. so just leave a little extra time. if that's your route richmond center fell bridge looks pretty good. 14 minutes is unexpected drive times right now and everybody is up and the golden gate bridge, the debt good. but i gotta tell ya, traffic is pretty slow from nevada highway. 37 down to this spot. 42 minutes when it should take about 20. if your run of the speed limit. so little slow through southern all right. let's talk about the stolen be unopened.

bee keeper pretty frustrated this morning after someone stole a colony of bees and its queen. >> right from the front who does that? that's what she wants to know. she filed a police report everything. and now the question is who done it and what is she going to do? because she's just about to have this honey tasting and the event for kids, which obviously they missed out on kron 4. sarah stinson has the story. >> meet the the lady. that's what susan donoghue is known as in her rockridge neighborhood in oakland where she's been living for nearly 3 decades be keeping is a real source of peace for me. donahue often host honey tasting events made from the 25 hives. she manages trying to teach the kids and families different. >> color and flavor and texture of honey. she was getting ready to do just that on saturday. she says she placed a brand-new be observation of i've like this one on a table in front of her home and then went back inside

cycle. we're not coming out of hand feeling really. and representative policymakers, donahue filed a police report online. she's not heard anything back. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in oakland kron. 4 news. >> it's 8.20 and the city of pittsburgh is breaking ground on a new project to connect trails to bart and new housing and business development over a mile of new trails are going to be added along railroad avenue. they want let a fewer cars on the road and give residents a safe alternative to driving. city officials are hoping it will encourage public transit as well. >> for your health this morning, there are is a recall right now. organic walnuts tied to an e-coli outbreak. the nuts were sold in natural food and co-op stores by hollister based gibson farms incorporated. now these potentially affected not have an expiration date between may 20st and june 7th of 2025. e-coli. bacteria can cause everything from severe stomach

cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and those symptoms usually kick in about 3 to 4 days after you consume contaminated food. the fda says multiple bay area stores may perceive these walnuts, including stores barkeley, santa rosa, san francisco, castro valley. there's a list if you'd like to see it. the fda has put that together on their website. on the peninsula. a lawsuit's been filed now and the san mateo county superior court against boxer mike tyson after a fight broke out on a jetblue flight years ago. this happened on a fort myers bound flight from sfo. back in 2022, the lawsuit alleges that tyson started physically assaulting the client. melvin george townsend before the flight departed that assault left townsend with injuries and blood dripping from his face. tyson's camp, though released a statement saying it was townson that had started it all by being aggressive and taunted tyson on this flight before it even took off at one point, even throwing a water bottle at the boxer. tyson eventually snapped and they've

>> 25 in the south bay, san jose lawmaker wants to put an end to trafficking in the city. councilmember bn tome wants to put phone numbers in

bathrooms and in public places so that people who are victims or want to report trafficking or human trafficking will know the number to do that. similar signs can already been seen at the san jose airport, according to the south bay coalition to end human trafficking, trafficking represent 77% of human trafficking and more than 60%, a sense trafficking victims are women, girls and people of color. the oakland city council has just voted to approve a contract for the new police chief. floyd mitchell, who you see here and under the terms you can see what is pay is going to be about $365,000 a year. and that includes the $40,000 premium pay that is required by the contract. and he also gets the benefit of a car allowance monthly, which is 750 bucks. >> may 1st is typically known as college decision day for high school seniors. but this year they're in limbo as to

which school they might be attending because of a problem with the student aid processing. the issue is with a new form of the fafsa and that was released late last year and the changes were made to make applying more simple. that was the goal. but that lead actually to processing glitches and now major delays. many colleges now pushed back their decision. deadlines, though. some haven't. and that's forcing some students to pay a deposit without knowing how much tuition is actually going to cost them. a 26 the time. up next on the kron 4 morning news, a recount is almost done in a highly contentious race for a congressional seat in the silicon valley. rumors are spreading as to who was the one pushing for this recount.

>> 8.29 right now. you just did that thing on college and i'm going to go see my kids college graduates. right. a lot colder in utah than it is here. i know they're going to 50. luckily for us. anyway, we've got a nice temperatures until the weekend. then what are we drop into the 50's to it seems like it right. max 60's this weekend. so a lot of us will be in the 50's come saturday, which is going to be a rainy and even snowy day for the upper elevations. you never know it. looking out there today. how crystal clear skies are berkeley hills camera looking nice and green up in the hills and blew up in the skies. that's that springtime weather that i think a lot of us look forward to. it is a bit breezy, especially for the stanley. and we do have a wind advisory in solano county today, other than that, really pleasant san mateo sitting at 60 degrees. same in pittsburgh, 50's for most of the rest of us right now. but temperatures are quickly rising and setting us up for an afternoon in the

living in the home who they say are possible human trafficking victims along with a bunch of cash and has been going off. hello, neighbor's of includes by say this has been going on for months. bound to have eye. it's been going off to fight 4th of july last year. anthony garcia has lived next door here all his life and says he's seen men come and go out of this house since last summer. just wants a life safety for my sister, my niece and stuff. and while the investigation is ongoing, garcia says now he has some peace of mind to do now that they're out here loved like a sign relief. in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. all right. 32 is the time happening today on this may 1st. >> we're recognizing international wor ers day and a group in san francisco is going to be honoring that by marching to city hall. it's set to begin at about 10 o'clock this morning. it will be a group of immigrant workers rights and antiwar organization supporters. they're going to gather at mission 24th street bart

station and march to san francisco city hall demanding investment in workers and immigrant communities instead of war with the city budget crisis that threatens critical services. immigrant workers rely on workers are now calling for justice from san francisco to palestine. meanwhile, janitors in the bay area who work at california's largest office buildings and tech campuses will rally today as their union contracts expired yesterday. so they're now without a contract and thousands of janitors are taking to the streets to support their union committee, which is negotiating. what they claim or excessive workloads in the industry. and they say that abuse and exploited janitors are the norm. now, according to the department of industrial relations, one-third of janitors in california are injured on the job. if no resolution is reached, janitors will plan to strike as early as may 7th. i mean, just or some sort of explosive or firework okay. just a firework

>> hey, guys, we've got to go. we've got to go. we've got to go. we've got to go a very dangerous situation developing overnight in los angeles. you can see a heavy police presence. >> which is still out there this morning after clashes broke out overnight between groups of protesters. the university declared a pro-palestinian encampment was on lawful after that. protesters attempts to take down barricades around midnight and then the fireworks and people could be seen throwing objects at each other. got very, very dangerous. now we have seen protests but they have been more peaceful at all kinds of schools. not just college is this is the oakland unified school district they have seen some demonstrations there and they actually plan to have some more as well. oakland high are sorry. oakland tech high is going to have a demonstration today. they're doing a walkout at noon and students and teachers are going to be participating in

that. >> okay. well, meantime, 50 former google employee is now filing an official complaint against the company for what they say was unlawful termination. 2 weeks ago, those employees were holding sit-in protests google offices in sunnyvale and new york. the company fired them last week after finding out their identities. and this was video of that demonstration in sunnyvale. the workers filed a complaint saying that google unlawfully retaliated against them. those protesters say they want their jobs back and they want google to allow workers to protest without consequence. >> it's a 35 and calm for is your local election headquarters and we should know all the results soon today for the recount for the contentious race for silicon valley. 16th congressional seat. yeah, it is half over if you think about it because they're 2 recounts. one in santa clara county, they finished their part of the recount. >> then their san mateo county and they say they have completed theirs as well. but they haven't announced the results yet. kron four's catherine heenan takes a look. >> santa clara county voting

officials say their recount shows evan low picked up 11 additional votes. joe summit, ian gained 7 so low lead summit, ian, by 4 votes in santa clara county. but that does not answer the question of whether low one san mateo county still has more than a dozen challenge to ballots and official there told me they have finished counting them but won't announce the results until wednesday after campaign attorneys and others get a chance to review the numbers. meantime, sam liccardo published an opinion piece in which he again rejects claims that he's behind the recount because a former staffer named jonathan padilla requested it. he says the fact that padilla is a supporter of mine is not remarkable. every independent expenditure committee in history has been created by a candidate supporter. i think the cargo is doing the smart thing, which is. >> he's trying to get ahead of whatever the results are

because someone is going to win. that was going to lose and where it's going to lose main all probability trained, blame liccardo the fact and of the 3 person race. it's a 2 person race. michael yaki also agrees with lockhart called for. >> automatic recounts in a close election which may have lessened the political drama. >> because you want to kind of get the politics out of this and just getting into that. the issue of voter integrity and every vote counts. i would hope that the california legislature after this would mandate as a as a requirement in the california electoral process that automatic recounts be available in united states house of representative races in the case of a tie. as it was catherine hannah. >> kron. 4 news. a 38 is a time in the east bay. after years of delays, 16 17 year-olds in oakland and berkeley will finally get the chance to vote in school board elections the alameda county board of supervisors voted tuesday to approve $113,000

contract increase with a 3rd party election services company. and to add 6 positions to the registrar of voters office. the decision will allow the county's elections officials to add the necessary software upgrades to provide year-round support for youth voting elections processing canvassing voter file maintenance, special election building and youth voting activities. so a whole lot now going into effect 8.38. is the time right now. and this could be a historic step. >> in easing marijuana restrictions, the dea might reclassify cannabis to be pretty much like tylenol schedule one drug to schedule three-drug kron four's. rob nesbitt has more now on how those changes could have big ripple effects. owners of cannabis businesses will tell you how hard the industry is hit by high taxes. it's part of the reason why the for 20 event in golden ate park was canceled this year. >> announcement from the federal government will help ease tax burdens.

francisco, not as windy as yesterday, but still enough that we do have a few advisories to talk about both inland and out along the coastline. first, some gale warnings up along the point raised in sonoma coast lines, seeing those expiring along the rest of the bay area codes. so little bit of good news there. as for interior, though, we still do have a wind advisory for solano county in the central valley through 05:00pm today, a strong north westerly wind continues in areas like vacaville and fairfield, most notably. now we are in the midst of a high pressure ridge, but only momentarily, this keeps he's very comfortable through friday. nice warm forecast. but after that, we see our next storm system diving in and as has been the case for so much of the bay area this year. it's right in the middle of the weekend. saturday comes along with temperatures, 20 degrees cooler and some showers models aligning for anywhere between a 3rd to 3 quarters of an inch of rain for the bay and some solid snowfall in the sierra out of this one. we will be looking at some decent snow
