whatever it is, it hasn't taken off yet. good morning. >> good morning, everyone. i don't see anybody swimming across this morning, but it's been about 2 weeks or so that it's been out of service and it's really cause commuters a little bit of a headache. but it's now back up and running. and we're waiting for those commuters to get here. take a look. we've got video up on your screen now about 2 weeks ago. back on april 19th. that's when the golden gate ferry service was suspended between san francisco and sausalito and it was due to damage that was found during a routine inspection on the piers pylons here in south toledo, officials say the closure was really out of caution. but since and they have had contractors come out and fix the issues of the pier this morning is ready to go and ready to be back in service. take a listen to what some commuters had to say about the situation. >> little guys are not in school, they get to write so it's a family i know people that we appreciate it. i think

continue at several college campuses nationwide, including here in the bay area. you're looking at tense now that are covering the quad san francisco state university. the protesters say they're pushing their university and u.s. officials to disclose expenditures that colleges may have had with foreign investors. >> and uc berkeley now the tent encampment there is getting bigger here at sproul plaza. as you can see that in its second week. now. and today, faculty and staff plan to join in with the students who are camping out at noon. the protesters are calling on the university to stop investing in companies that work with israel, especially those involved in making weapons of war on the peninsula. at stanford university, students have been protesting as well and they're concerned about disciplinary action because of what they've been doing. the students tell us that the school got some are since the school sent them disciplinary letters for participating in a protest. >> it start off with 19 for

out of like 2 or 3 more. can't exactly remember who have gone letters from the office of community standards and are basically being put through their internal disciplinary process. the language is very big. >> the protesters would like that language clarified. so they know what penalties and punishments they might be facing. we reached out to stanford about this, but we haven't heard back. >> well, in the south bay, santa clara university also joining in on those protests, students. they're urging administration to take action and called on the government to cease military funding for israel. students who organized the solidarity demonstration are asking people to gather on the alameda lawn of santa clara campuses from 12 until 08:00pm today. >> has these campus protests are escalating around the bay and around the country. congress is looking at what to about this. some house republicans are launching an investigation into the federal funding of the university and they're also pushing to pass new anti-semitism laws. we have our dc correspondent hannah brandt following the latest.

>> house leaders accuse university officials of failing to keep the protests under control and they say not enough is being done to protect jewish students. fireworks erupted at ucla and protesters clashed on campus across the country of colombia. new york police stormed university building to arrest dozens of protesters who have been occupying it. this thing is out of control from capitol hill. lawmakers are watching with concern and house speaker mike johnson warns of universities don't get the chaos under control. you will see congress respond unkind. you're going to see funding begin to dry up. you're going to every level of accountability that we can muster. he says several house committees will investigate the protest and may decide to take away federal funding. and this week, congress is gearing up to vote on a bill to change the federal definition of anti-semitism under anti-discrimination law. the rampant anti-semitism. >> requires action by the federal government. congressman mike lawlor introduced the legislation and

supporters say it would allow universities to crack down on harmful speech. this is not the free marketplace of ideas. >> this is open threats to jewish students because of their faith and who they are. but some worry it goes too far like congresswoman teresa ledger, fernandez, we're constitutionally bound to protect. >> free speech, even more importantly, when it is speech with rich. we do not agree. and congressman pete aguilar prefers letting universities respond. they have guidance. they have they need to enforce those before congress. kate snow once the white house as well, president biden does support peaceful protests. he is concerned about antisemitism on campus and doesn't agree with protesters occupying university buildings. >> in washington, i'm hannah brandt. >> thank you. hannah 608, is a time. in other headlines this morning, 450 homeless families in san francisco will soon receive financial help. they've been chosen as part of the 5 year pilot program funded by google and local nonprofits. half will receive

$1000 a month. the other half will receive just 5 a $50 a month. it's all part of a study aimed at showing guaranteed basic income programs can work to combat poverty and homelessness. the payments will be distributed exclusively to families who are about to lose access to city funded housing subsidies. the program is part of a broader 1 billion dollar effort by google to increase the bay area's housing supply. in the east bay. the alameda county board of supervisors voted to certify the results of the recall petition for district attorney pamela price. and this comes as the state launches an investigation now into one of the groups behind the recall sodhi a price as it in september. her campaign team filed a complaint against the group claiming that group did not comply with certain laws that govern all political committee committees in the state. but this recall investigvtion could take up to several years and penalties could range from a warning to fines, but it won't have an impact if voters decide the recall or to recall priced at

609. and now that the recall signatures are verified. the county board of supervisors has to set a date. >> for that recall kron four's dan kerman breaks down the timeline for this whole recall process. >> this is a frivolous, fraudulent and road are only u.s. election campaign to recall da price. alameda county is at a re us but da price been in office. i have no trust in pamela price. >> ask me i am a victim's family. the problem is not pamela price. the problem is the people who are getting a lock the people who are using drugs. and are out the streets and they're creating all kinds of crime. now that the board is move forward to certify the results, they will hold another meeting on may 14th to set a recall election. >> the special election can be set 88 to 125 days in the future. alternatively, the recall can also take place during the november 5th general election, which would

save the county a boatload of money. if the recall is successful in prices voted out of office, it will be up to the board of supervisors to appoint someone to take over the appointed da will serve 2 years until the next general election in november of 2026, whoever wins that election, we'll finish out prices term which runs until january of 2029. supervisors. no, the da pamela price believes the recall is illegal because the process did not follow the county's charter. in fact, one county supervisor said she hopes the county is sued. so a judge can make a final determination on that. >> nevertheless, the board of supervisors is moving forward on the recall. they will hold a special meeting on the 14th of may which point they will set a date for that recall election. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> and 6.11 and still ahead on the kron 4 morning news. somebody stole bees from an

and cache in at cache creek casino resort. >> 6.13, is the time. and here are 4 things to know. police in santa rosa are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that crashed into a motorcyclist yesterday afternoon at the intersection of hopper avenue and airway drive. they say that motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on hopper when that pickup truck made a left turn in front of that motorcyclist in an attempt to turn southbound on to airway. police say the pickup truck drove away from that scene in the motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries. a man died after being shot in sunnyvale yesterday morning on the south. bernardo avenue

sunshine that we're going to be seeing later today. we are still seeing fairly breezy conditions at the coast. most notably winds have picked up inland, though. a gale warning along the coastline still in effect for the marine and sonoma coast. while we are looking at the wind advisory still remaining in effect through 05:00pm today for solano county as well as the rest of the central valley. strong northwesterly breeze kicking up in there. if it was a little bit later in the year, that would introduce a higher fire. danger risks are not really looking at that right now in that rainfall we have this weekend as part of the reason for that, we're still very green honor hillsides. and despite some warm and dry days that we've had, we've interspersed them with some cooler and wetter days. and we've got another one of those on saturday. saturday comes along with showers across the bay area in models are in alignment that this is going to be some pretty solid shower activity at that from friday night through the day on saturday, snowfall up in the sierra, nevada is going to be at lower elevations than the last time around as well. so relatively

cold system making its way in from the northwest in a late season system at that bay area will see anywhere between the 3rd and 3 quarters of an inch of rainfall. pretty decent. all things considered up on the north coast, multiple inches of it and up in the sierra nevada, we are going to be talking as much as a foot to even 2 feet of snowfall. this highest of elevations, donner summit as well as that go past on highway 15. i-80 are going to be snowpack to come saturday and friday nights. so if you're heading up there, bring the chains with the app. as for today, daytime highs are going to be very mild. you'd never know that we have this wintery switch up around the corner. it's going to be 60's at the coast and then 70's to even low 80's for most of the rest of us redwood city at 73 today, south bay temperatures mid to upper 70's for you and the east bay mid to upper 70's as well. hayward i-74 oakland comfortably at 73 concord, pittsburgh, fairfield are very warm spots each getting up to

>> alright, 6.19, is the time and a bizarre theft in oakland after a bee keeper says someone stole her colony of 15,000 bees and its queen. who do something like this? well, susan donoghue has lived in oakland for nearly 3 decades. she was actually hosting a honey tasting event in her rockridge neighborhood saturday morning. so she set up a table with a b observation hive and then went back into her home to grab some honey to share it with those outside. but she says when she came out, she saw that somebody's head apparently pulled up, stole the bees. donahue says the thieves not only stole from her, but they also took an experience away from the kids. >> and saying the kids come looking for that observation hive or to see the bees and then having explained to them. that they got stolen. and that somebody would steal. these is really. >> disheartening to me. just

it's 6.24. and a man has been arrested in the north bay for firing his gun several times outside apartment complex. >> and then being drunk in his car where police found of this happened monday night in sandra fell. police found all the shell casings first, 14 casings in the parking lot and they found the man passed out in his car. he was booked into the marion county jail. in the

south bay. a san jose lawmaker wants to put an end to trafficking in the city. councilmember bn don't wants to put phone numbers on posters in bathroom stalls and on bathroom mirrors in public restroom. so victims can call for help and report trafficking. similar signs can already be found at the san jose airport, according to the south bay coalition to end human trafficking, trafficking represents 77% of all human trafficking and more than 60% of trafficking victims in the nation. our girls, women women that identify as people of color. for your health, there are now calls right now a recall of organic walnuts tied to an e-coli outbreak. >> so the nuts were sold in natural food and co-op stores by hollister based gibson farms incorporated now potentially affected walnuts. have an expiration date between may 20st and june 7th of 2025. e-coli. bacteria can

6. 31 and in the south bay, a brothel is busted in san jose right in the middle of a neighborhood. now police say they arrested a man for pimping and found 2 women inside of that home where they believe may be human trafficking victims. proffers jack moment has the story. >> 2 weeks ago, this house right here that's moving out was the site of a police raid where officers say they busted a commercial brothel. >> police say they've been looking at this home of 16th and saint james since november. tuesday evening, a moving dropped. the men here speak mandarin and tell me they were hired to move belongings out of here. they say they don't know anything about what happened here earlier in april week or 2 ago or use in its recently moved into the neighborhood and says a bunch of police officers showed up 11:00am several days ago busting what they say is a commercial brothel. >> disturbing details to shun who is a san jose state student for sure show. i mean, like any crime is a concern to but especially since i live like right across the street,

police also arrested shoe chain the 53 year-old man now charged with pimping and pandering. they found 2 women living in the home who they say are possible human trafficking victims along with a bunch of cash and has been going off. hello, neighbor's of includes by say this has been going on for months. >> bound to have eye. it's been going off to fight 4th of july last year. anthony garcia has lived next door here all his life and says he's seen men come and go out of this house since last summer. just wants a life safety for my sister and my niece stuff. and while the investigation is ongoing, garcia says now. >> he has some peace of mind until now that they're out here. i'm like a sign relief. in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. >> it's 6.33. and today's may first and it marks international workers day and a group in san francisco is going to march to city hall at 10 o'clock this morning. they are aiming immigrants rights activists, workers and antiwar organizers. they'll be

organizing it. mission. and 24 street bart station there. and they're going san francisco city hall and the man and investment and workers and an immigrant communities and not war. and, you know, in the city, there's a budget crisis is threatening critical services for immigrant workers. so they are calling for that to be looked at as well as justice in the middle east 6.33. and speaking of workers, janitors in the bay area. >> who work at california's biggest office buildings and tech campus is they're rallying today to draw attention to the fact their you're their union contracts are set to expire soon and they're working on a new deal right now with their union committee negotiating. >> trying to >> reduce excessive workloads. they say that abuse or abuse and exploit janitors based on their status. they also say they're not paid enough. they want better working conditions. there is a study that finds a 3rd of janitors

in california were injured on the job last year. if they don't reach a resolution for a contract. the janitors plan to strike as early as may 7th. >> also happening today, students from across the oakland unified school district are planning a walkout in solidarity with the protests happening at the university's for palestine, oakland tech. high school will be one of those schools from around the district participating. their walkout is planned at noon today. they will have speakers from their student body along with teachers discussing the events unfolding in gaza. meantime, 50 former google employees are filing an official complaint now against the company for unlawful termination. 2 weeks ago. you may remember those employees were holding a sit-in protest at google's offices in sunnyvale and new york in the wake of that, the company fired them last week after finding out which employees participated. the workers filed a complaint saying google unlawfully retaliated against them. the protesters say they want their jobs back and google to allow workers to protest without retaliation.

>> kron 4 is your local election headquarters and the recount and the highly contentious race or silicon valley 16th congressional a seat is effectively half over, right? yeah. meantime, santa clara county finished. it's part of the recounts. the san mateo county. >> officials say they'll announce their results today. kron four's catherine heenan takes a closer look. >> santa clara county voting officials say their recount shows evan low picked up 11 additional votes. joe summit, ian gained 7 so low lead summit, ian, by 4 votes in santa clara county. but that does not answer the question of whether low one san mateo county still has more than a dozen challenge to ballots and official there told me they have finished counting them but won't announce the results until wednesday after campaign attorneys and others get a chance to review the numbers. meantime, sam liccardo published an opinion piece in

which he again rejects claims that he's behind the recount because a former staffer named jonathan padilla requested it. he says the fact that padilla is a supporter of mine is not remarkable. every independent expenditure committee in history has been created by a candidate supporter. i think the cargo is doing the smart thing, which is. >> he's trying to get ahead of whatever the results are because someone is going to win that was going to lose and it's going to lose main all probability trained, blame liccardo the fact and said of the 3 person race, it's a 2 person race. michael yaki also agrees with lockhart called for. >> automatic recounts a close election which may have lessened the political drama. >> because you want to kind of get the politics out of this and just getting into issue of voter integrity every vote counts. i would hope that the california legislature after this, we would mandate as a as a requirement in the california electoral process that automatic recounts be

available in united states house of representative races in the case of a tie. as it was catherine hannah. >> kron. 4 news. it's 6.37, and a lack of leadership and a lack of guidance is what a city audit found where the reasons behind oakland's missing out on applying for that state organized retail theft grant. that grant would have helped with the theft problem that oakland and other various cities are seeing that oakland missed out on the money. the oakland police department started preparing an application, but the city's economic and workforce development department didn't start doing their application until june, which was after the deadline. and in the end, the audit found that nobody knew who was in charge of the flying. so both departments are struggling to submit different elements of the application and the july 7 deadline came and went and they missed out on that money to help crime. the audit noted the application may have been submitted on time if mayor
