it expires in just 2 days. >> thanks, justine. yeah, the program is taking advantage of by 27,000 households here in oakland. but across the state of california, almost 3 million households are enrolled in the acp which provides a $30 a-month discount internet or cell phone bill for those who are taking advantage of this benefit. >> so what happens when this expires and they don't get this $30 a month, which i would think for some families, the 6 a significant amount of money in order to pay for internet services that they might need for work or for school. what happens when they lose this? >> it's one of our biggest concerns right now. and you've seen digital equity out advocates from across the state imploring the federal government to keep this benefit going. tech keep thousands of households on 9. we've heard from we did an incredible drive with oakland unified school district to enroll thousands of families in just earlier today, i heard from an ou st parent who said that she doesn't know if she'll be able to keep her internet on after this $30.

how the end of the program will impact their bill in may and to learn about any promotions or low-cost programs that they might be able to enroll in as the acp expires importantly, the federal government put in certain protections. so if you contact your internet service provider and you realize that internet just become too expensive without this benefit, you can cancel your plan or switch plans without in any early termination fees after the acp ends at the end of this month, those protections are not guaranteed. so we're encouraging folks to act expeditiously to contact their internet and cell phone companies. and congress is not showing any signs of trying to renew this. unfortunately, not. there's been quite the standstill despite wide bipartisan support, including all of our elected here in california, really rallying for this benefit. the state is making huge strides in advancing digital equity. but this is a huge tool in the tool belt, which for the foreseeable future is likely not to be benefiting the consumers that need it so
