>> like clockwork. monday your way james. yeah. >> we're waking up this morning, too. brightening conditions here to notice it. but the sum starting to peer over the horizon, things look pretty clear when i took the dogs out this morning. dave, what are we in for? all right, james and darya. good morning. good morning, everybody. pretty sweet coming our way. in fact, a little warming trend that's only being delayed because of little bit of a low up towards our north, providing that chilly onshore wind that you could feel the coast. it will be chilly there even though everybody come enjoy the sunshine sfo. no delays going on out that way. there's a low i'm referencing up in the northwest. not really much of an impact for us just to win producer a bit. there are the current winds for you there in the teens, san francisco and coastal elsewhere, the kind of variable around most of our readings are in the 50's and 40's for now. and we're looking at for today to be about 59 at 10. at 1 o'clock with to about 69 is we see plenty of 70's only to be replaced by 80's by mid week. we'll have more on that forecast and that james darya,

ok, let's take a look at the roads this morning. we're going to start with the golden gate bridge where, as you can see, we're looking at a pretty decent ride. southbound 1, 1, >> not a lot going on. chp logs. fairly clear. just 90 minutes to get from nevada to san francisco. the richmond sandra fell bridge we're seeing are west bound 5.80, right looking good, especially on this side of the toll plaza. no backup to report yet to 8 minutes to get sandra fell or should say from richmond out to sandra fell your san mateo bridge to the south looking good westbound. 92, not bad from hayward foster city. just 14 minutes. and then a final stop for you this morning. the bay bridge where, as you can see, there is a bit of a backup, but nothing more than the usual slow and go. it's 12 minutes to get from the macarthur mage to fremont street in the city. 601 right now. and the developing story that we're following students and they continued protest at uc berkeley. they are rallying for a cease-fire in gaza. that protest is now entering its second week. kron four's will tran is out there for us live this morning. will.

>> and it is still going on right now and there is no sign that it will. and because obviously the conflict continues between israel and palestine. you can see the tents right behind me. this is that sprawl plaza. this is just a sliver of it because there are more tense around the corner altogether. we are hearing about 70 tents at this location across the bay. stanford also doing the same thing. let me show you video of all the universities across the country altogether. approximately 80 universities, many of the students have never met each other, but they share many demands, including here at uc berkeley. they're demanding that this university knowledge that what's going on is genocide. they also want transparency. they want the universities to cut ties with companies that do business with israel, especially with manufacturing weapons. it has been mostly peaceful. yes,

we've seen hundreds of arrests across the country but mostly peaceful. we don't see widespread damage, but it is being closely watched by police officers across the country. if we can head out live right now, probably was a is right next to the police department. so police officers, they are here. but so far they are not needed to move in. this is all happening while the other students are coming and going and graduation. just a couple of weeks away. these are students. they are staying at the tense. they will wake up and head to class and come right back here and continue with their protests. the universities they are trying to find out exactly what to do with this, including obviously they don't want any disruption in class, but they also know that universities are bedrock for free speech. back to a delicate balancing act to be sure. thank you very much. well, we've seen it elsewhere. there are multiple anti-war protests on college campuses

across the country. >> students demanding, for example, that the university's cut ties and financial ties with israel as well. some campuses have asked the police to break up the protest. hundreds of people in various cases have been arrested. the protests and in some cases encampments, their concern could disrupt upcoming graduation ceremonies at different colleges. we know that usc, for example, they've already canceled their main graduation ceremony. and now let's turn to developing news. a story that's out of sfo. another united flight. >> had to be diverted because of a mechanical issue. the flight was going from sacramento to denver yesterday and it had to land at sfo. it was a boeing 7.37. that's unclear what the mechanical issue was. but we're told that the pilots did not have to make an emergency landing. there were 160 people on board and they were transferred to a different aircraft. they made it to denver about 2 hours

later. >> in the south bay, at least 2 people were injured when a santa clara county sheriff's patrol car collided with another vehicle in san jose. police say it happened on comet or drive and king road a little after 12, 30 yesterday afternoon. the cause of the crash. >> it well. >> this still being investigated are a number of streets had to be closed. all of passengers reported just minor injuries. not clear what caused that accident again, but they're looking into that. we have reached out to the sheriff's office for comment. we'll let you know when we hear back. meanwhile, a woman was shot and killed near downtown san jose. and police are still looking for a suspect. it happened in the area of north 4th and east saint james streets. this was friday night about 9 o'clock. police say the victim was found in the street. they say the shooter ran from the scene and neighbors in the area tell us they heard multiple gunshots, which it first sounded like firecrackers, but they say officers were on scene until 6 in the morning on saturday. this is the city's 12 homicide of the year. >> it's 606. and we want to

give you an update on a story that we first brought you here on the kron. 4 morning news last tuesday. the naacp is now reacting to this situation where a man attack to san jose mayor matt mahan assigned police officer. the security guard kron 4 was interviewing the mayor at the time when this man, 35 year-old wesley pollard walked up and confronted the mayor and staff started arguing that's when a police officer while security guard at the time stepped in. told pollard that we're we - conducting an interview, asked him to move long and then he became confrontational. and then as you could see, it came to blows in response to this. the san jose silicon valley and a a c p has released this statement saying that the officer involved in altercation did not clearly identify himself as a law enforcement officer. and it appears that there was no legal basis for instructing the pedestrian to move from his location in a public space. the pedestrians reaction should have been met with a more measured response

from the officer considering the circumstances and a quote. >> oakland a's fans here shouting and protesting chanting because they >> are upset about the team moving to west sacramento next season for their a games until they get their new vegas stadium. here they are at the rivercats game before they showed up before the game of the weekend. and here's how they feel about the relocation. >> i mean, how is sacramento kings, mansfield, if if if another owner came about and say, hey, we'll let you play here for free. i mean, that's what he's doing. like, yeah, you might be moving jon fishman 3 years, but you're also moving in the summer of sell the summer boycott. these fans are passionate and you think we're just going to go away because? it's an hour and a half away. >> well, meantime, there's a petition to remove the a's new play by play announcer. jenny

cavnar is the first woman in mlb history to serve as a club's primary voice in this petition. those behind it say the main reason for wanting her removed or comments or because of comments she made back in 2021. about the a's in vegas. so the petition says are calling for her to be removed immediately. we'll see what kind what happens with that. >> it's 608, and in the north bay after 27 years in business, the iconic candy store on main street in timber on. >> is closing. and the owner says that a major rate hike is forcing her to close up shop proper. sara stinson spoke with customers and the owner about what this means for the town. >> after nearly 3 decades of providing sweet treats the candy store on main street in tehran is closing. the store was packed with people sunday trying to get their favorite candies one last time. iran is not to run without this candy it's a destination for the kids to come downtown and get candy. this is kind of sad to

see that like a childhood memories going away. the shop is a sweet childhood memory for the owner to cam heartbroken. i really am i you this is been half of my life 16 years. jenny torres grew up in temple run and work to the candy store in high school in 2015 when the original owners wanted to sell, she left her job as a teacher and bought it at just 24 years old. i close up that night and i was a business tourists. as in the last 9 years, she's experienced the ups and downs of running a business in a seasonal tourist town. during the pandemic. you know, i moved heaven and earth to to stay here keep profitable and keep paying the rent never miss a mint. torres says she was trying to renew her lease on main street. but when her landlord hiked the rent 60%, she says she made the difficult decision to close. once. i realize that they weren't really willing to negotiate. i haven't had a broken talk to them. then i realized that it was just going i was suarez says this

has other small businesses on main worried about being pushed out to their nervous having one in the street east, such a high rate would cause their regular rate skyrocket. you know, as word got out about the closure, the support came flooding in from the community. a lot of people came and asked me what i needed, what i wanted. people offer to invest. people offer you know, pay the rent. a gofundme page was set up to save the candy shop. it's raised more than $6,000. tourists hopes one day she can open up the shop in a new location. but for now, it's farewell. was many of it has been coming to say goodbye to the candy look at that smile. i we going take away the smiles. torres is hoping to keep this sweet tradition alive by opening up another candy store somewhere else in town. >> with a different landlord, we reached out to her current landlord, but we did not hear back in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in timber kron. 4 news 6.11,

say he is original plan was to bribe immigration agents to deport his ex-wife to her home country. they say he then plotted to kill her. this happened back in 2022. and decent met with an undercover fbi agent on 2 occasions. he apparently wired a total of $23,000 to an fbi undercover bank account in san francisco and 6.18 police have arrested 2 minors for a carjacking and robbing person in vallejo. >> the victim was sitting in his car near holiday street and cassady street on tuesday night when a man locked up with a weapon and the drug, the robber did get away with this avenger that the guy was in 2 days later. officers then spotted that stolen car. the they chased the suspects in berkeley after the driver crashed into another vehicle. that's when 2 people made a run for it across the highway. police are ended up arresting them and they were juveniles. 6.19, is a time right now on the peninsula. redwood city officers arrested a teenager

for selling a fake apple earphones on multiple facebook pages marketplace pages. the airpod max's. these are the new over the air ones. they had real serial numbers which could be looked upon. apple's website. but the serial numbers apparently had been taken from real devices. and, you know, devices that were associated warranty. so the was not valid because it wasn't that headphone there that you would have bought. investigators found multiple listings for other things that they believe are fake merchandise and they went undercover and that is where they ended up with this arrest. they arrested 18 year-old jose on how sanchez they served search warrant on his home and they found about $2000 worth of counterfeit merchandise. there they see that merchandise and arrested him. >> well, the city college of san francisco is moves now to allow non-citizens to vote when it comes to board elections. the policy proposal would allow all non citizen

city college students who are enrolled in classes in the previous or current academic year to have a voice in their election. non-citizens would still need to meet the other requirements for elections like being a san francisco resident or being over the age of 18, although the city college of san francisco endorse the policy, it still has to be sent to the board of supervisors to be considered as a potential charter amendment and ballot initiative. california now adding more electric vehicle chargers up and down the state. and now new data from the governor's office suggests the golden state is miles ahead of other states when it comes to trying to keep electric cars on the road. according to a new report, there's now one electric vehicle, fast charger station for every 5 gas stations in california. newsom's office says a total of 105,000 public chargers have been installed throughout the state and on. that's on top of the more than 500,000 at-home chargers that are currently installed as well. >> 6.21, a local businesses are taking a hit because the

sausalito ferry, as we reported a week ago, it's been closed to commuters and to, you know, anybody i mean tourists and like use this, you know, for example, the rent a bike. they they right over from san francisco to sausalito how they back. they usually take the ferry know can because of some repair work that they're doing in. this is second week of this repair work where they found they did an inspection. they found one of the pilings on the pier was damaged so they had to stop it altogether. a spokesperson says they can only do the work during low tide and that's why it's going to take a lot longer. in fact, i don't even have an estimate. so people who live in sausalito say this is a big loss for their town and of course, for tourism. any anybody who wants to visit? >> i think everybody's businesses affected. 15 or more per cent. people that visit san francisco, one of the things they have to do while they're in san francisco's take a ferry boat

>> it's 6.25. in alameda county. taxpayers are going to see a sales tax increase to fund child care measure c it's a 20 year half-cent sales tax increase that the voters passed in 2020. it was challenge, however, by alameda county taxpayers association. well, the california supreme court upheld the measure last week. so the money is going to go to child care is going to be divided into 2 accounts, 20% devoted to pediatric healthcare overseen by citizen oversight committee and then the 80%. it's going to be dedicated to childcare. preschool and early education. and that will be administered by first 5 alameda county. >> well, seafood city is opening up in daly city, the american grocery chain that

specializes in filipino products is opening in a city with one of the largest filipino communities in the bay area and the country for that matter. the daly city store is opening soon. according to their website, the but the city manager tells kron 4 there websites, location of the new store on saint francis boulevard is incorrect. their new location will actually be at saint francis square shopping center. daly city officials say roughly 34% of the city's population is of filipino descent. and there are already 6 seafood city locations in the bay area. well, asia sf has officially turned out the lights, the nightclub known for hosting dinner cabaret performances with transgender dancers. they've been open for the last 26 years in the soma neighborhood in san francisco. but the owner says they are hoping to continue doing pop-up performances to keep the legacy of asia sf on. >> it is 06:27am. coming up next on this monday morning. san francisco is seeing a drop in car break-ins compared to

slowing a bit on this span. so just keep that in mind. if you're going to cross that bridge any time soon, give yourself a little extra time. we're also seeing a backup beginning to build here at the richmond, sandra fell bridge toll plaza where it's 12 minutes to get from the richmond side out towards marin county. our final stop. the golden gate bridge. 1, one southbound from the bottle into san francisco running about 19 minutes on the spot itself. as you can see, traffic's still on the light side. gorgeous, right. >> all right. it's 6.31. right now, the south bay for 37 years, thousands of students around northern california come to downtown san jose to show off their engineering skills. yeah, it's called the tech challenge in this year's event brought in 2000 students to the competition with kron four's jack moment. he was there. >> over 500 teams of students from around 144 different schools from the bay area. and northern california joined together here downtown san jose for the 37th annual tech challenge. but the tech projects they're working go back months.

>> i means the end of the school year. but for these kids. >> really, fun. >> challenging the 37th annual tech challenge in downtown san jose. well, months in the making doesn't feel like your usual homework assignment. this is really an opportunity from students all over northern california to showcase their amazing engineers feel i belong core helps protect challenge on every single year. this is her 11th and she says every year is a different theme. this year's theme is space. >> she adds that every year is special. they started as early as october. >> i mean, at the end of the project, they come here to showcase everything they've built for long court. it's a pivotal moment for kids anywhere from 4th grade to senior year round for me. i really love to see all the amazing things that the kids create. it really gives me a lot of hope for the future of our world. >> what the future can wait because now it's time to show off. target twice into 3 different platforms. this group of spaceship for their

butterfield, the daughter of the co-founder of slack has been safely located after she was reported missing last monday. detectives say the 16 year-old turns out ran away from her family home. she was found with a 26 year-old man who they have arrested. that person now being held on $50,000 by a pale. >> it is 6, 3, 4, and >> and number of cars were torched, engulfed in flames. as you can see here across the tenderloin in san francisco. this in the dark hours of yesterday morning for cars were on fire. and this is about 05:00am from the citizen app. you can see is the area near van ness and hickory and rose streets as well. these fires there were more fires that were in cars on jones in any street, the area of hate octavia and market street. nobody was hurt. and they're trying to figure out who did it. basically 6.35. right now, police arrested a homeless man for attacking 2 people, including piedmont's police

chief who was attacking others started friday at ace hardware on grand avenue in piedmont, police got a call about an elderly man who was hit from behind and the suspect has been identified as willie gomer. he ran next door. and a police. it might be under the influence of something. and they say that he attack officers who showed up there. and so they used pepper spray and a taser on him. eventually, i guess he was able to get away because he broke into a home and then threaten a resident and then took off outside. and that's where he was confronted by the piedmont police chief, jeremy bowers to see here. he actually managed to get into the police chiefs cruiser. bauers tried to keep him from driving off by getting on, you know, the opposite side of the passenger side. and that's when the chief was attacked and gomer was arrested. now he faces several charges.

>> saturday marked one year since banko brown was killed outside a walgreens in san francisco. we have video from the security cameras at days last april, the private security guard involved claims that brown was shoplifting during the confrontation. michael earl wayne anthony shot brown as he tried to leave the business a second time and the da's office ultimately did not try anthony because he argued self-defense claiming that brown had allegedly threatened to stab him. brown was later found to be unarmed. walgreens. the guard and the company that employed that guard were eventually find. brown. a black transgender man was on housed at the time and a volunteer organizer for the group. young women's freedom center. issued a statement saturday writing in part, quote, bancos life was worth so much more than what it was taken for in the face of adversity. he was resilient and courageous. he fearlessly fought for the rights of dignity of trans people. on

the peninsula. san mateo deputies arrested a man accused of taking a child the same day she was reported kidnapping. so deputies say the woman or a woman approached them outside their headquarters in north fair oaks saturday afternoon to report their 4 year-old daughter was taken from her by the child's father. police say the man's car was spotted driving down el camino real. he was especially taken into custody and that child was returned unharmed to their mother. >> another burden in the bay area's tested positive for west nile, which comes from mosquitoes. you're looking at those here. contra costa county officials say they found it in a dead crow in concord earlier this month. that's the first case of west nile this year. they're officials in alameda, san mateo and santa clara counties have already reported cases of west nile to reduce the risk of the spread. it's all about mosquitoes again. so you have to dump out any standing water that collects because the mosquitoes breed in that and we're talking even a pet. all that's left outdoors are like
