station, this is home. 11. good evening. thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at dan thorn. we begin tonight with dealt developing news out of san francisco international airport where another united flight was diverted because of a mechanical issue, a united flight from sacramento to denver landed safely at sfo today. but it is unclear what that mechanical issue was. the aircraft was a boeing 7.37. more than 160 passengers were on board, including crew members, according to a united airlines spokesperson and emergency was not declared on this flight. customers deplaned normally and got put on a different aircraft. that plane landing in denver just 2

hours after the scheduled time. but again, this is another situation involving united airlines at san francisco international airport. be sure to go to our website kron 4 dot com following all of those stories. all right. let's talk about some local businesses tonight that are taking a hit in sausalito as the ferry continues to be closed for commuters. those closures are now entering their second week after an inspection found that one of the pier pilings was damaged. a ferry spokesperson said that they can only work during low tide so that those repairs may take some time and people living in sausalito say it's not just a big loss for the people in their town, but for anyone who might want to visit. >> i think everybody's businesses affected. 15 or more per cent. people that visit san francisco, one of the things they have to do while they're in san francisco's take a ferry boat

to sausalito and spend a day here in the in the magic kingdom. and that's what this is. >> the golden gate ferry hopes to have the sausalito back up and running by sometime next week. while repairs are being made a transit. but buses taking passengers across the golden gate bridge. yeah. kind of candy store on main street in timber on closing after 27 years in business. the owner says a major rate hike is forcing her to close her shop. kron 4 sarah stinson has more on what this loss means to the town. >> after nearly 3 decades providing sweet treats the candy store on main street in tehran is closing. the store was packed with people sunday trying to get their favorite candies one last time. iran is not to run without this candy it's a destination for the kids to come downtown and get candy. this is kind of sad to see that like a childhood memories going away. the shop is a sweet childhood memory for the owner to cam

heartbroken. i really am i you this is been half of my life 16 years. jenny torres grew up in temple run and work to the candy store in high school in 2015 when the original owners wanted to sell, she left her job as a teacher and bought it at just 24 years old. i close up that night and i was a business tourists. as in the last 9 years, she's experienced the ups and downs of running a business in a seasonal tourist during the pandemic. you know, i moved heaven and earth to to stay here and keep profitable and keep paying the rent never miss a mint. torres says she was trying to renew her lease on main street. but when her landlord hiked the rent 60%, she says she made the difficult decision to close once realize that they weren't really willing negotiate at all. i haven't had a broken talk to them. then i realized that it was just going i was going for us says this has other small businesses on main worried about being pushed out

to their nervous having one in the street east, such a high rate would cause their regular rate skyrocket. you know, as word got out about the closure, the support came flooding in from the community. a lot of people came and asked me what i needed, what i wanted. people offer to invest. people offer you know, pay the rent. a gofundme page was set up to save the candy shop. it's raised more than $6,000. tourists hopes one day she can open up the shop in a new location. but for now, it's farewell. assuming ever met has been coming to say goodbye to the candy look at that smile. i we're going to take away the smiles. torres is hoping to keep this sweet tradition alive by opening up another candy store somewhere else in town. >> with a different landlord, we reached out to her current landlord, but we did not hear back in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in timber kron. 4 news. >> all right. let's get you a check. your 4 zone forecast tonight taking a live look at the golden gate bridge kron

four's gayle ong. joining us with a look at the forecast. a we are warming up this week. we could see 80's inland, especially mid week. so we'll hold on to the 70's. it looks like and we will be breezy once again. so current temperatures out the door. >> we're in the low 50's and san francisco mid-fifties in oakland 50's over in santa rosa. so that's pretty mild for this 11:00pm hour. we are not much of a change as you can see, even 5 degrees at this time yesterday in novato there and then one to 2 degrees up and then take a look at the wind speeds at this hour's still. it at 21 miles per hour in san francisco. we're in the teens. so tonight is should be really refreshing, especially in livermore, you know, inland where it's warmer. but over by the coast, you'll notice that chill here and look how quiet we are on our storm tracker as well. so looking ahead here is that warm up. i was talking about mid to upper 70's inland, even 80's, possibly on wednesday. when i come back,

where actually cooling down by next weekend. and i'll have that forecast in a few minutes. all right, thanks. >> it's small town. we all everybody knows. it's too literally. it is one of those places for everybody does each and things. it's just at future. it's hard to imagine now? >> at least 4 people are dead in oklahoma, including an infant after tornadoes swept through the state this weekend. those tornadoes leaving a wide trail of damage in the city of sulfur, destroying buildings, tearing off roofs, scattered debris through the streets and flipping over cars. the destruction leaving more than 30,000 oklahomans without power. at one point. and the governor declared a state of emergency in 12 counties. hospitals across the state have reported about 100 injuries. woman was shot and killed near downtown san jose friday night. and police are still looking for a shooter. investigators say this happened in the area of north 4th and east saint james streets around 9 o'clock

friday night. the victim was found in the street unconscious and not breathing. police say the shooter ran from the scene and neighbors in the area tell us they heard multiple gunshots. it sounded like fireworks. they say officers were on scene until 6 o'clock saturday morning. this is the city's 12 homicide of the year. at least 2 people were injured when a santa clara county sheriff's patrol car collides with another vehicle in san jose today. this happened on commodore drive-in king road just after 12, 30. this afternoon. the crash forcing a number of street closures. all passengers reportedly had minor injuries. still not clear what caused the accident. and we reached out to the sheriff's office for comment and so far have not heard back. the number of cars engulfed in flames across san francisco's tenderloin district early this morning. fire crews say 4 cars caught fire around 5 o'clock in the morning. this is video here from the citizen app showing one of those fires in the area near van acid, hickory and rose streets. the other fires

breaking out on jones and eddie in the area of hate and octavia and on market street, no injuries are reported. the cause of these fires still under investigation. in san francisco city officials joining residents in embracing today's sunny weather unity events all across the city and middle school families are celebrating bike safety with free lessons. tune, ups and giveaways at the annual bike safety. fair. and 70 member phil tang hosting the event to educate kids and to urge voters to support the safe routes to school program. the legislation proposes wide sidewalks, higher visibility, crosswalks and more bicycling safety. ting says this mode of transportation also makes for greener city. >> well, as we are fighting climate change with time to make sure that we are encouraging everybody to walk more to bike more to make sure that we have transportation that's clean the cleanest

transportation again is using your own feet, whether it's walking or biking. >> and this is on schools near the east market street area, which is a busy corridor that runs through daly city. san francisco mayor london breed joining in today's celebrations of 4 years of golden gate park being car free. mayor london breed sharing this video on x, commemorating the anniversary and more than one mile stretch of jfk drive inside the park has been closed off to cars since 2020 and sense that closure of the jfk promenade is the most frequently visited open space in the city. for more than 37 years. thousands of students around northern california come to downtown san jose to show off their engineering skills. it's called the tech challenge. and this year's event brought in 2000 students of the competition. kron four's jack moment was there and has this report. all right. coming up

>> for 37 years, thousands of students around northern california come to downtown san jose to show off their engineering skills. it's called the tech challenge. and this year's event brought 2000 students to the competition. kron four's zac moment was there and has this report. >> over 500 teams of students from around 144 different schools from the bay area and northern california joined together here in downtown san jose for the 37th annual test challenged. but the tech projects they're working go back months. >> time means the end of the school year. but for these kids. >> really, fun. but >> challenging the 37th annual tech challenge in downtown san jose. well, months in the making doesn't feel like your usual homework assignments is

really an opportunity from students all over northern california to showcase their amazing engineers still have been long core helps put the tech challenge on every single year. this is her 11th. and she says every year is a different theme. this year's theme is space. she adds that every year is special. they started as early as october. >> i mean, at the end of the project, they come here to showcase everything they've built for long court. it's a pivotal moment for kids anywhere from 4th grade to senior year round for me. i really love to see all the amazing things that the kids create. it really gives me a lot of hope for the future of our world. what the future can wait because now it's time to show off. your target? twice into 3 different platforms. this group of spaceship for their style could middle school and east side. san jose. these kids started building their catapult last summer. how do feel about when it really great, really great they'll all their targets besides one and get a medal beyond infinity. astronauts

we've had some really nice that daytime highs. we've been warming up in the 70's and it looks like. >> we will be warming up to the 80's, possibly a midweek us for our inland communities. so we have a warming trend on the way. but the winds you may remember, we've been doing with that over the last couple of days. it looks like that will be a sticking around with us. so we want to take you your weather headlines. just know that we will be mostly clear tomorrow and will be mostly sunny. and with those gusty winds as well. and then we do have a slight cool down towards the weekend. >> so warming trend and then a cool down later this weekend. so here are the current wind speeds right now. so 21 that sea breeze kicking up in san francisco, relatively calm everywhere else in the double digits here. oakland, 12 miles per hour. livermore and refreshing breeze at 10 miles per hour visibility for your morning drive looks mostly clear as well. so you won't be dealing with the fog. it looks like. and now let's get to 4

zone forecast. a 60's in san francisco, upper 60's by the mission district over by the beaches. that's when you'll notice the chill so over by the coast. so with the seabreeze and that will be a a cool breeze. so you want to your jacket when you're heading out there. upper 50's by half moon bay in the beaches, upper 50's in south san francisco and mid 60's in burlingame. it gets warmer as you make your way south to mild temperatures and mountain view at 69 degrees. and then we start to see some 70's over by santa clara county. 73 in morgan hill. 72 in san jose and over by hayward, low 70's upper 60's union city and fremont tried valley low 70's more 70's contra costa county and over by berkeley and upper 60's in oakland and then more 70's once again. so it's almost a repeat of today with that. you know, nice 70's in the forecast and will be getting warmer towards midweek. take a look at wednesday. we could see 80's inland of the bay 70's and the

coast 60's upper 50's and then will be cooling down with some partly cloudy skies by the end of the week. >> all thanks a lot note for your monday morning commute. southbound lanes between the 6, 85, 80 connector in pleasanton are set to reopen at 4 o'clock tomorrow. of course, there's been a closure from 5, 86, 80 down to koopman road in seminole. they've been close this weekend because caltrans has been working repaving the road out there and also caltrans has shared some pictures from highway 37. this is the north bay with the roads have been closed there for a project. those are set to reopen at 04:00am as well. the westbound lanes were closed for repainting and keep this in mind over the next 2 weekends, those eastbound lanes are going to be shut down for repaid.
