the first time that a grim discovery has been found. >> reporter: what you can see is the sheer face on the other side. lots of people come to this location for the view, but this trip turned deadly. a man was put on an atv and took the trail up the rocks. >> i was going up the trail and saw the body laying nonresponsive. >> reporter: the man parked his honda, hiked down alone to climb it and slipped. it's not the first time. a year and a half ago a man in his mid-20s fell from the same up cropping and died.

start with mark tamayo. >> reporter: right now in the satellite we have mostly clear skies but the most recent imagine we see clouds to the north and west. that's our next system moving in. it will be approaching by tomorrow. there's a look at the next two days approaching the bay area, approaching the sierra on track to approach novato over the next few days. close enough to the bay area there's a possibility for thunderstorms. every time you get the potential for lightning strikes over the next few months and this time of year there's concern for fires. and tuesday that could be a different story. we'll take a closer look at the thunderstorms chances coming up at 10:35. our team coverage continues now ktvu's azmith smith is

live, and already has a look at where the lightning is coming to. >> reporter: areas that aren't easily accessible for firefighter and in this drought, any lightning strike could spark a fire fast. >> one more thing to add to the equation. >> reporter: calfire firefighters gearing up tonight for a new enemy. one that's unpredictable and can strike at any time. >> we usually have a large lightning event, it looks like waoár in that weather pat earn. >> reporter: calfire battalion firefighters showing us how they're looking at the weather. >> we have the ability to ma'am any -- to map any of the lightning strikes. >> reporter: the last lightning atrack back in 2003. more than 1,000 lightning strikes an hour hit northern california. >> it limited our ability to put every fire out. we lad to actually monitor a

drink. problems like nudity, people graffitiing on the sidewalk and acting too rowdy. but the task is still not complete. >> there seems to be more people. less self-service. >> reporter: this is patricia's tenth year working clean up. and she says she saw more pronounced arrests today. >> perhaps they're enforcing the law. we have to keep enforcing our trash duty. >> reporter: crews are busy picking up the trash that didn't make it in the bins: but with so many people still out, it's not making it a easy task. double digit tons of trash will be generated. and that's standard. with the crowds now thinning, you can see clean up crews are starting to make some progress. but they tell us they'll still have to be out here most of the

night. in san francisco, patti lee, ktvu. we checked with san francisco tonight and they tell us a total of 35 people were arrested or sited at this year's beta breakers. 24 were arrested for public intoxication. three people were sited for urinating in public. it's easy to forget that beta breakers is an actual race with serious athletes because revelers often overshadow the event. at the top of the hayes hill was a throng of people bobbing down the street. this is what much of the race course looked like today. this year there were new rules for participants to follow like no nudity. >> i have a feeling it's just going to push the party further down the rout. the people who live near the panhandle have more to fear. >> reporter: 40,000 people signed up for beta breakers.

a convicted sex offendser is back behind bars accused of sexually harassing a woman. police arrested this man 59-

year-old michael garcia after they say they caught him carrying out the crime. >> reporter: a known sexual predator is off the street after his latest attack. michael garcia a transient is responsible for sexually harassing a young woman at the shopping center just before 1:00 in the afternoon on saturday. shoppers packed the mall but so do the homeless. >> there's a lot of transients because there's homeless shelters here. >> reporter: we found out garcia was living one block away from the shopping center at home first. a homeless placement facility. those who know him believe he targeted his victim. the woman reportedly stayed at the shelter for one night and checked out the next day. >> the guy said here, come with me. you can take a shower at my motel. and she was a vulnerable young lady. he went with the gentleman and he dragged her into the bushes and tried raping her. that's what i heard. >> reporter: the attack happened here behind the home

depot. police say when they were notified about a woman's screams for help they arrived to garcia sexually assaulting the woman. online the 59-year-old is a registered sex offender charged with lewd and lascivious behavior with a child under 14. >> you spend x amount of years behind bars being a sexual predator you come out and do the same kind of thing. no i hope he does not return. >> reporter: garcia is in county jail, he's set to return to court on thursday. cristina rendon. the chp says a motorcyclist was seriously injured after a horrific crash in a busy bay area highway. emergency crews rushed to southbound 101. the chp say it is car was stopped there in the middle

lane following a collision when a motorcyclist slammed into a parked vehicle. at last check he was in the hospital in grave condition. another driver then hit debris from that crash and lost control of his vehicle slamming into the median. in continuing coverage of californian's wildfires. firefighters have put out all the wildfires. most evacuation orders have been lifted. of all the fires burning two have been contained. the coco fire is almost 90% contained tonight. the las pulgas fire is 75%. the san mateo fire burned through 1/5 of the base. the flames left vegetation that could spark again. i think there is a little

precipitation we get what's called the dirty burn. so it can be a battle for firefighters. the risk remains absolutely. 12,000 firefighters battled 11 fires in all. more than one dozen homes were destroyed. federal officials are issuing a new warning about pet treats after thousands of dogs have been sickened or killed. the fda has been investigating and testing jerky treats for seven years now. trying to determine the exact cause of the more than 1,000 dog deaths and 4,800 illnesses here in the u.s. most of the cases have been tied to jerky treats from china. 24 cats and three people have also been sickened. pet advocates are urging the fda. at&t says it has agreed to reply to america's biggest satellite television provider direct tv for $48.5 billion.

a man stranded by flood waters. the serbian president is calling the event catastrophic. three months worth of rain fell on the region in a three day burst creating the most rainfall since pressurements were created. crews are set to go out tomorrow to search for unearthed mines. a rally in south california called for the safe return of close to 300 girls kidnapped in california. they called for a peaceful resolution to the crisis. the girls were kidnapped from their school on april 14th. last week a video was released proportedly showing many of the abducted students.

fire officials are looking for the cause of a fire inside a recycling center. it started at about 12:15 this morning at marin sanitary service on jacobi street. fire crews found a large pile of debris burning inside the building. they were able to put it out quickly before it damaged the structure. officials say they did not find evidence of an encampment near by. new at 10:00, it's estimated there are more than 1 million apps for your smart phone that's just from apple. in a few weeks a bay area woman who once found herself in handcuffs because of her activism will now make her challenges with her own app. >> if there's a stereo type of your classic computer nerd, pamela davis probably doesn't fit the imagine. >> i know, look at me. i'm 56-1/2. >> reporter: the el cerito grandmother and activist is

the space x dragon cargo ship is now on its way back to earth after a one month trip to the international space station. space x is another company founded by tesla ceo musk. the commercial ship is carrying almost 2-tons of science experiments. if the mission goes as planned the dragon will fall into the pacific ocean about 300 miles off the coast of mexico's baja peninsula. earlier we were talking about those gusty winds that really whipped up over the area. let's check in with mark tamayo to see if those winds are still high out there. >> i think another day of gusty witness. the winds have really picked up. it's that time of the year especially for the afternoon hours. the winds really cranked up in

the coast. out toward sfo and the alta pass. ocean beach 42. petaluma 30 miles per hour. on the satellite right now we are in the clear except a few high clouds already approaching point rays and also a few high clouds approaching right around eureka to cape mendecino. all associated with the system that will be a factor over the next couple of days. current temperatures are cooling off as you would expect this time of day. san jose 57 degrees. santa rosa 59. and san francisco in the mid- 50s. right now 55. fairfield a wind out of the southwest checking in 17 miles per hour. novato a wind gust that's at 17 miles per hour. a few more reports not as strong in san jose. look at that sfo wind speed. it's still up there with a gust of 33 miles per hour. sustained checking in at 26- miles-an-hour. so for tonight we do have this partly cloudy skies and gusty

winds out here. here is our live camera looking out toward the bay bridge. it's beautiful out there with not much in the way of fog here not just yet. that could be a different story tomorrow morning. tomorrow morning some low clouds and fog to start out the day. partly cloudy. as we head into tuesday the chance of a few isolated thunderstorms approaching the bay area. we talked about that earlier with an increase in the fire danger with potential lightning strikes out there. overnight lows to start out your monday morning upper 40s to low 50s with partly to mostly cloudy skies. big batch of high clouds already approaching the bay area right now. tomorrow this system will generate more clouds winds once again easily topping 20 miles per hour. there's a slight chance of a north bay thunderstorm. the northern parts of napa county. this system move as little closer to the bay -- moves a little closer to the bay area. with the thunderstorms threat that will increase the bay area. we'll be watching out for that

closely. here's our forecast model showing you the clouds. on your tuesday, you see more coverage developing late tuesday into the afternoon hours. a chance here the bulk of the activity to the north and east of the region. out toward the sierra they could pick up snow showers as early as tomorrow. with snow levels up above 7,000 feet. so possibly snow showers up in the mountains. forecast highs for tomorrow will continue to clean things up. warm 80s. warmest locations lower 70s. san francisco lower 60s and once again the wind speeds do pick up. the slight chance of a thunderstorm up in the north baby tomorrow afternoon. look ahead we'll have to keep an eye on tuesday without the thunder storm threat. we do gradually pick up those numbers thursday into friday. the weekends for memorial day weekend looking pretty warm out there. inlands approaching 90 degrees. a big change long range. but that thunderstorms icon especially on tuesday makes me a little nervous, we'll keep an eye on that. up next, a clever kid is
